Hmm what is this heavy little box the postman brought?

This is the new over-size safety button for 870 from Dlask. LMAO:D

On our grizzly hunt my son used his Dlask 8.5" with the butt stock on with 3" Brenneke slugs I used my Marlin 1895GS with 525gr WLNGC's to go in after the grizzly we shot the night before.

He has it set up with a 4 round side saddle and 5 rounds on the butt stock then loaded with 1 in the chamber and 2 in the mag tube.

Going in the thick bush like we had to do (could only see from 1 to 20 yards max) this short shotgun was absolutely perfect for it's fast handling abilities.

Here is a pic of the bear it weighs about 1000 lbs and would stand about 11 1/2' tall...

I haven't had a chance to find out lately and it really isn't an issue for us as we prefer this gun to have the butt stock on anyway.

FYI the overall length with the butt stock on is 29 1/2" which is basically the same length as a standard 20" barreled defender type shotgun...

We feel this is the perfect length for the purposes/uses that we have for this shotgun...

Only issue we have is the front sight needs to be taller all shots hit a bit high with the stock front sight needs to be taller.

First chance I get I'm going to contact Joe and ask about getting a taller front sight installed as well as the status of the shotgun.

Camp - go buy one of those 'clamp on' fibre optic sights that just clamps to the barrel and rests against your existing bead. They work great, and they raise the bead on short barreled guns. That might very well give you exactly what you need, as well as improving visibility of the sight. I've used 'em on shorties before, took care of the problem no sweat. Might work for you.

Plus - with it that close to your face with both eyes open you get this kind of 'hologram' of a circle in your eyes, makes it DAMN easy to track and hit targets fast :D hehehe

CC, I find that if you get right down on the front blade it hits proper POI (at least for me) but agree it would be easier with a taller blade. I build up a front sight with one of my SRH inserts on top of the blade and then added a Remington rear sight adn opened the rear up to an express style, even with the short barrel it benefits.
The F/O front doesn't fit onto the Dlask because it has a blade rather than a bead, and is already taller than the F/O TruGlo.

Cheers

I know what you mean problem is that there is a front sight not a bead on the short Dlask barrels.

I have one of these fiber sights on a shotgun barrel now so took a look at it definately won't work with this front sight.

Good thought on a fiber optic front sight though think I will look around for something that will work or at least ask Joe when I call on him next week.

It is a pretty rough job and I did it as a test but seems to work fine. I can email you some photos if you want.

I also tried one of the Tasco reddots on a rail for ####zand giggles, the recoil shook the mounting loose very quickly.

Joe could easily cobble together a simple yet effective sight system for these guns. I put Rem sights on my other 12.5" Dominion as well and it is 100X better with them.
Cheers

I want to make it perfectly clear that we did not hunt with this shotgun my son carried it in as a defense gun when we walked in 12 hours later after it had been shot.
