Hoisting deer

I would think a pulley system with a 4:1 Mechanical advantage would work well for hoisting a dressed out deer by one fairly strong fella for his age . Your thoughts

There are however some great ideas for when the animal is back at your home

I use a atv winch mounted to the wall run thru a pulley in the rafters. Back the truck in the garage and put my gamble thru the back tendons and flip the switch

Decent rope pulley hoist will work.
Cable come along is fine too for a few dollars more.

I use a Warn Pullzall (120V). That thing has been so handy over the 20 years I've had it. They're currently $399 at princess auto for the 120V version, $499 for cordless.
There's a few other brands on the market now.
I use it for deer, pulling trees the right way, moving equipment, etc.

I purchased a game hoist from Cabelas years ago that worked well. It had a brake mechanism which so i didn't have to hold the weight while tieing it off to something. I would also recommend getting a good low stretch rope to go with it. nothing worse than trying to use a pull system with a rope that acts like a big rubber band.

I have two simple rope hoists in my kit. One is a 500lbs that I use for deer and I haven't met a deer yet that I couldn't hoist up myself with it. I believe it cost me 14.99 or 16.00 at princess auto and I've been using it for many years now.
The other one is a 1000lbs rope hoist, just a little beefier than the other one and thicker rope. I think it cost me 24.99 at canadian tire. Might have been less.

I have a 6:1 ratio hoist pulley system that I picked up years ago at the now defunct Le Baron's outdoor store. The 3/4" rope is getting tatty and I plan to replace it with a 5/8" braided nylon but at 76 I can still haul up a 300 lb. whitetail with little effort.

I use a boat winch under the mezzanine of my shop. Works perfectly. I use mule tape or synthetic winch rope. Moose or elk need to be halved due to height but I think it would handle them weight wise. .

For deer we just use those cheap hoists you get a Peavey Mart

I use the same type block and tackle and use my home-built gambrel. The gambrel ends are shark hooks with the barbs filed off. Never a problem of an animal slipping off! LoL

I carry snatch blocks and paracord in my pack. Sticks are everywhere to spread the legs. Find a tree and get er done. Cheers

I've used one very much like that one for years; pretty sure mine has three wheels at each end. It makes lifting very easy. Last year, I installed a used manual winch salvaged from an old boat trailer on one of the uprights of the stand and used it to raise and lower the load. Now it's perfect.

simple manual boat winch bolted to a light frame can go to the woods too. quiet, no gas, no electric, just basic arm-strong
Can be anchored to anything to pull anything

So what will you use for stopping the rope or tying it off or a brake
those pulleys are not 'prussick-minding' so will be a pain, maybe add a rope grab or 2
and use low-stretch 'static' rope , arborist rope is good
