Holy Crap! First Reload

Nice group, did you shoot any more groups?I would separate the brass, since the Winchester and Federal cases normally have different internal volumes, which results in different chamber pressures.

I've got the same rifle in 300 win mag. People were kind of turning their noses up at them because they were cheap.....hunting barrel instead of a heavy barrel etc. Now....as you and I know, with the right load, they aren't such a crappy little rifle after all are they :D Yea, the barrel heats up pretty quick, but we didn't really buy them for a sustained firefight now did we LOL !!!!! Congrats on the first batch or reloads. Nice job. Another one hooked !!!!!

Know what you mean and at one time, I was of similar opinion. I would now define that 'brand' of firearm as inexpensive VS cheap.
Here's one very similar in 25-06.

And here's example of the results that 'inexpensive' rifle is capeable of:D as out of the box.

Back from the range with a new report. Today i was trying to see how seating depth played a role in my gun. Let me tell you it make's a huge difference.

Hopeing to recreate yesterday's grouping i loaded 10 federal brass with the same charge as yesterday (2.5cc). What i did do is seat 5 low and 5 higher. While not a big difference in looks (bad pic) it was a huge difference on paper.

Today is was a bit colder (-4) and there was more wind (15kph). I shot the first 5 with the low seated bullet's.

Not real impressed i went for my higher seated bullet's.

Now not nearly as good as yesterday if my math is right still a .415 ctc group? After the 3rd shot i didn't want to push my luck so i fired on a new target. I tried to measure from the creases where the outside of the bullet hit the paper.

I also loaded another 10 rounds with a bit higher charge with half federal and half winchester to see if the case's made any difference. Unfortunatly i seated them all deep and they grouped 1.5 inches. They were also a silver tip 180 as i ran out of my other bullet's.

Now if i have time tommorrow i can run some of these silver tip 180's with my original powder charge seated higher and see what they do.

This can turn into a long process but i'm finiding out pretty quick what my gun like's. I hope my 22-250 barrel show's up soon as i have 400 bullet's for it and 160 factory rounds to fire and use for brass.

P.S. I was writing on the target board with the target up so it look's like i can't write (rough plywood).

It would appear that you are well on your way to finding an optimum load for that rifle.

Keep in mind that shooting on cold days often results in bigger groups. I find that cold hands do not help in getting a good release on the trigger. I also find that gloves make it harder to shoot well. :D
