Holy S#*T stocks are expensive

I'm planning my first precision build and as usual I have already talked myself up to a pricey (for me) piece. I want a tactical style stock with adj cheek piece and preferably a spacer system. After tons of reading I've got it narrowed down to a few choices but these things are expensive! and I don't want to order the wrong one. Unfortunately I won't be able to handle any of these in a store and I don't know anyone who has one. It will be based on a savage action. I'm about 5'9" shorter arms and reg to small hands.

Which ones do you have experience with and what are your likes and dislikes? Am I missing a lower cost option??

I like

1. Mcmillan A5 ( great reputation, in savage only a saddle cheek riser though)

2. Manners MCS-T4 (looks really nice are they?)

3. Manners MCS-T5 (I like the look less but it may be a very comfortable practical design, anyone have one?)

4. xlr industries evolution (wierd looking, looks like it would get caught in your clothes but it has everything on it, adj cheek piece and butt, and rails, plus no bedding needed all for a lower price, any experience?)

Thanks for your help!

Oh and as if this post wasn't long enough anyone have camo suggestions for an all stainless action and barrel?

Do have a look at the Robertson offerings. Quality and design are as good or better than anything you can import.
You are referring to how the stocks look, and tactical style. From a shooting standpoint, ergonomics are important - and this isn't necessarily the same as appearance.

I just built my first precision rifle on a Manners MCS T4-A and I'm thrilled with the stock. I built it as a hunting rifle that is capable of covering a lot of prairie. It's light, solid and very comfortable to shoot. I've never shot a McMillan that didn't have sniper fill for weight in the A5 so it's hard to compare the two. Both are top notch in my books.

I can get choate, b and c and xlr stocks. I have handled several xlr stocks, they are excellent in fit finish and functionality. The choate tactical line is excellent as well. Pm me if I can be of assistance.

Noneck...did you checkout the the Joel Russo a5's. ?

Cheers

I have a McMillan A5 on one rifle ( excellent ) and an AICS on another ( very, very good - need to remove riser off stock before removing bolt though. Easy to do but worth mentioning ) and a Choate on a third. The Choate (Ultimate Varmint model ) was only a few hundred bucks but it really does a good job and ought to be considered.

yes

I have A-2, A-3, A-5's and T4's and have had choate as well. I actually find the A-5s a little to bulky. My favorite is the A-3 and it will be what goes on my next rifle. The wide fore stock on the A-5 and T4 are good for shooting off bags but the A-3 is better if you are going to ever take it hunting.

I was a bit disappointed with my McMillan, the inletting for the stock was slightly crooked. Frankly, for a stock that I paid over a thousand to my door, that's simply unacceptable. I made mention of it to McMillan, but their only suggestion was to send it back (no mention of who was to pay for that shipping, I would assume me), and they would credit my CC, minus the shipping charges.

It was my first McMillan, and unless I get a stellar deal off the EE, it'll be my last McM.

If you're handy... you could always go with a semi-finished stock, and install the hardware yourself.

Something like this start at $115 in Claro Walnut

Another vote for Robertson Composites. If you like the A5, then check out their Tac- very close, but a tad slimmer, and stiffer. Delivery times are getting to be really good with them, and you can order whatever extras you wish. They start on this side of the border too, so there's less hassle, and no middle man.

I think it is a stock from Richards Microfit Gunstocks. I have looked at them before and they claim to export their stocks.

Yes, Richards Microfit
Yes, they ship to Canada.

Just a to add it's LOOOONGGGGG wait time for some stocks from Microfit. Last one I order took nearly a 8 months before it was shipped. An be prepared to do some sanding and inletting before your able to even get it to work.
