I watched a couple of "experienced" shooters at our local range take their scope in the brow,funny ####..for "experienced" guys to do to themselves.But to know what may happen and put an inexperienced shooter behind a 12ga,NOT funny.

What kind of jerk would let a young, lightweight, obviously inexperienced girl shoot a shotgun without support or hearing protection... thats just dumb.

The dude didn't even tell her to lean into it or take a proper stance...

Lesson: Don't let that happen to your wives when shes pointing it at a break-in crackhead.

i just picked this up off the EE. factory 18" barreled 20 gauge 870 compact, with a Knoxx spec-ops recoil reducing stock. i figure itll make an ideal lightweight walkaround grouse gun, as well as the perfect gun to give to new shooters - especially women and kids.

if thats not the ideal shotgun for a chick, i dont know what is. it is light, loaded it feels half as heavy as a loaded 12 gauge. feels a lot handier too. takes chokes too, which is a huge plus for me on any shorty barrel.

the fact that its a 20, not a 12, plus the Knoxx stock and proper gun fit should ensure that recoil is light, yet its still powerful enough to put someone down with one shot.

you can buy the gun itself (with regular short LOP stock with spacers so you can adjust LOP from 12" to 13") for around $380 brand new, and order a Knoxx stock for it.

the gun itself is $380 at LeBarons right now, if you have a club card ($25 membership for a year, gives you 10% off everything even ammo) then its $340. on top of that theres a $30 rebate on Remingtons right now as well.
Knoxx stock is about $130.

you could just get the 20 gauge, and have her try that out with lighter loads... and if the recoil still bugs her get the stock after.

what i really like about this setup is the knoxx stock gives me the same 12" LOP as the factory stock (so basically the only thing im getting from the 'compact jr. model is the 18" barrel), but also easily adjustable to over 15" LOP. so it makes it really versatile to adjust to different shooters. i must admit i scoffed at the knoxx stocks in the past but now that i own one i take it all back - theyre super well built and they work. i just went through a couple boxes of 2 3/4" #3 buck (recommended HD load) and recoil was very light.

plus, i really think this doubles as the ideal walkabout grouse gun.
