I do a fair amount of moose hunting, have done since I was pretty much legal and tagged along before that with my dad.
I thought that this year I would rework a project that I used in the past. It was a silhouette of a cow moose, the previous one was made out of 1/4 in. plywood painted black with a piano hinge to fold the sucker in half and make it more manageable but it was still heavy. This time around I picked up some plasti core in brown and got a photo of a nice cow quartering away I drew it on the plasti core and added some paint and voila this is what I came up with both sides are painted . It's lightweight and waterproof.
I figure if I place it in amongst some small trees in a fairly visible location it should fool old Bullwinkle after he comes in to see whats making those amorous calls.
Whata ya'll think.

Nice artwork. I think some outfit markets a product like that as well but of plastic with a lifelike photo image. I would personally get more pleasure using a home made model such as yours. I do feel it should be a tad darker though. Good luck with the swamp donkeys...and don't get shot at!

Looks good. Bordering on "####ographic" from a moose prospective.

Are you bow hunting or rifle?

Bow hunters often need to have the animal they are calling in, distracted by something to take them to a place where a clear shot can be taken. And to take their focus off the caller.

This should work well.

I have used a simple silhouette of dark brown and black material in the shape of a Moose. I usually just hang it from available willows. Has worked on 3 +40 inch bulls in last 6 years.I(2 in Archery 1 in rifle)

I have called in other bulls but was in Archery and never got a shot.

I keep it in a plastic bag with some Cow Moose in heat scent...so it really smells like a Moose.

I usually do NOT put it up until I get a response from a Bull....I then set it up to face broadside in his direction, that way when he comes in he will see the silhouette.

Then it just a matter of waiting....last Moose I shot was a 47 inch Bull 2 years ago 6 yards broadside.

The trick to decoying Moose(especially if your on the ground) is DO NOT move. No matter how good your decoy is if you move they will see you and likely they will leave as quickly as they came in.
....and position yourself between the decoy and the bull coming in....usually around 30-40 yards is enough....that way he will usually walk right past you on his way to the cow.

Very nice!!! I'd want a bit darker colour but don't think it matters. Think I'd be tempted to paint the tail on that thing blaze orange, would hate to get shot at, plus the moose wouldnt know any differnet.

Don't hide behind it! :D

A guy could get shot !

Looks great! Gotta wonder how many high speed dismounts a guy would cause with one of them parked off the road a ways.

Cheers
