Hornaday is at it again... This will keep the fan-boys running back for the latest/greatest. .25 CM

I do not. had one, sold it

Torn between selling off my 6 arc stuff and getting a 243/6 creed or hanging on for a new shipment of Rugers to land.
Don’t blame you, fastest turn around for a rifle I’ve ever had. Part of it I feel was because I got a lemon but the rifle also has some inherent shortcomings. Felt like a toy, action made a zipper sound, coupled with plastic bottom metal and trigger and slapped in the cheapest stock I’ve ever owned. Rifling near the crown in the last 2 inches was chowdered, looked the marks you’d see in a savage. Accuracy was 1.5” at best, many factory loads around 2”, my loads tightened it up a bit but was very disappointing. Let’s not talk about that mag release….

Well I’m always interested in new cartridges or chamberings,
I think anytime you have renewed interest in the sports shooting and hunting world it’s a great thing regardless if it’s needed or not,

Just look at this thread over 100 posts since the OP started his negative thread on the nonsense from Hornady…..

Thankfully we have companies like Hornady

I’ve never been a 1/4 bore or SA fan but may try this one out, looks like a very sensible option.

Remember when the 7-08 was introduced, same thing for and against. 25-06 was unpopular back then too, mine is better for coyotes than deer unfortunately. I've wanted a 250 savage for a while but maybe this is a better choice. I can't own one of each, so many, so sad.

anyone paying attention to the PRS world can see where the 25cr came from, it fills a small niche between two cartridges each with desired attributes so this one pulls together a few details that some shooters want
Hornady will love that it spills over to the new hunter world, so of course the natural progression will be suitable bullets

Does any other company put the effort into design and testing of products that Hornady does? idts
You are right of course, research geared to separate the gullible from their money... Like liberals! LOL

I wouldn't be surprised if more 25 Creedmoor die sets are sold than 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 25-06 and 257 Weatherby combined, from here on out

All hail the new king of 25 calibers!!!
Until the rifles are all consigned to the vault in favor of the next latest and greatest. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Hornady has certainly cornered the market for new cartridges lately. It's actually pretty impressive IMO, there's been a few other cartridges introduced but the Hornady stuff (creedmoors and PRCs) really seem to hit the spot for customers.

Its still real early for 7BC mind you. That's the one I have my eye on...

The most important thing 25CM seems to do is fit and feed in an AR action from standard mags with a notable second going to twisting at appropriate rates to expand modern mono bullets. Yes I realize the first point is now mostly irrelevant to Canadians.

Why not try something new with bullet diameters?
How about a .2335 diameter bullet? (Half way between .224 and .243)
Or an actual .250 diameter bullet rather than .257?
Or a .188 diameter bullet? (Half way between .172 and .204)
Or a .214 diameter bullet? (Half way between .204 and .224)
How about a new action length for a case length half way between .223 and .308?

Found this on Wikipedia:
  • .228 Ackley Magnum, an improved 7×57mm Mauser necked down to .228 caliber (5.8 mm); bullets in this size are hard to find but provide greater weight than .223 caliber bullets, up to 100 grains (6.5g), without excessively quick twist rate.

Not to far off from my suggestion in terms of bullet diameter but my idea of an action and case length half way between .223 and .308 would be what I would want it seated in. The hypothetical case would also have a base and rim diameter and shoulder width half way between .223 and .308.
I should also clarify that I mean the case length to the shoulder would be halfway between .223 and .308.

Two old .25 caliber cartrsidges that are hard to beat, each in their class... a .250 Savage and a .257 Weatherby Magnum. They will remain popular I think.
I feel like 250 Savage hasn't been popular in a long time lol

Good cartridge, just not popular IMO.

Wasn't Douglas/c-fbmi playing with the 234cal before he got pinked? I recall a whole line of 234cal cartridges being dreamed up and he got Matrix to make the bullets IIRC.
