hornady SST bullets on game?

Here is a picture of the only Core Lokt bullet I ever recovered in a whitetail deer...

I'd like to reload my own cartridges with these bullets (not satisfied with factory accuracy), but I don't know who makes the Core Lokt bullet or an identical counterpart from a different company.

I've always loved the Core-Lokt bullets as well but they (Remington) don't offer the reloader too many choices and the best Core-Lokt bullets are not even available as components. By "the best", I mean the .30 cal 180gr SP and 220gr SP, the .277 cal 150gr SP and the .284 cal 165gr SP. If you section any of these Core-Lokt SP (Round Nose Soft Point) bullets and compare them to the PSP version (Pointed Soft Point) you will notice that the SP has a much thicker jacket and they perform like a premium bullet for a fraction of the cost...but unfortunately you can only buy them in pre-loaded factory ammo!

The closest counterpart to the Remington Core-Lokt is the Hornady Interlock

Where can you get them??? The website doesn't list any part/item # for them...hasn't for many years.

I stand corrected, the only offer a 150 in SP, I apologize for that. I didn't read it correctly. Why would the offer a 150 SP but not a 180?

It's the 30-30 bullet...still a very big seller! The RN SP bullets for "high performance" cartridges have a rather limited market. People think that a RN SP is ballisticlly inefficient but the truth is out to ranges that most people shouldn't be shooting at anyway (300-350 yds) there is little difference in drop or drift compared to a PSP or even a BTSP for that matter!

I use them for deer hunting ( in .308 165grain). Ive killed three with them, very accurate, and deadly, no problem at all. . None of those deer took an extra step after they were hit. Two were through and through, one the bullet disentegrated in the chest cavity. They're my go-to hunting cartridge now

They are a great hunting bullet, when used in the correct application. As for toughness they would be roughly in the same category as any core loct, winchester power point, all your standard bullets. The advantage is that they have a much better BC with the plastic tip and boat tail, and are very reasonably priced.

I shot a big whitetail doe with a 6.5x55, 129gr sst at 2800 fps. 120 yards broadside through the lungs, went right through opened up some, and left 1.5 inch exit and massive blood trail. Perfect.

For high velocity, busting shoulders, or very big game I would choose a bonded bullet.
