How about an informal, friendly ALL-SKS Gong Shoot fun event at the Port Coquitlam Hunting and Fishing Club range.

The idea started in another thread by Rustspot: wow. SKSs is accurate. Check out this thread and see how inspiring it is.

Quote from Satain: Count me in. The two best night's are tuesday & thursday cuz no one is barely there. Also we should have a spoter with some glass to count hitz. I think curtorn was thinking about this too.

Quote from Rustspot: well im in!

Rules for SKS GONG MATCH:

1. Target will be the 200 meter 10-inch Square Gong. (through the kindness of Emmab)

2. Shots will be done by sandbag rest.

3. You will have 20 rounds to shoot in 5 minutes @ 1 gong.

4. All hits count, as long as the gong moves perceptibly, or you hear the sound of the bullet impact as determined by the scorer/s.

5. Scorer/s decision is final.

6. One spotter/scorer per competitor take turns scoring for each other

7. Tie breaker: 5 round shoot-off, 30 seconds, most hits wins

8. Entry fee is 1 20-rd box 7.62 x 39 ammo

9. Most hits wins

10. 1st Place Prize, takes all the entry ammo
2nd Place Prize, Spotting Scope (so you can practice for the next "gong shoot")
3rd Place Prize, Bino's (So you can see were the gong is!)

11. One class only: Open to all SKS from any country of origin, fixed or detachable magazine, stock or tacticooled, iron or dot or telescopic sights.

12. Since emmab made us 2 gong's we are going to have 2 shooting lanes.

13. Each shooter will be shooting at 1 gong depending were they are shooting.

14. Each shooter is allowed one spotting coach to assist him. This spotting coach is NOT allowed to score.

SKS enthusiasts/visitors from out of town are welcome to join and they can shoot my SKS if they do not have their rifles.
Ammo will be available to guests at cost. ($4.00 per 20 rd box)

C'mon SKS fans, let's have some fun.

Screw the timmy's after I will bring it to the range. I work better with the more caffieeneeeeeee runing thourgh my rifle!...
Sorry I mean brain!
:p
Also instead of the big gong with the scope it should be the little one to the right. Also the tie breaker should be clay birds @ 100.

SKS Shootout!

Count me in. This idea is great as well as the suggestion of the clay bird shoot out for the tie breaker.
May I recommend a contingent plan be prepared ahead, which will go into effect should it rain on the scheduled day. This way the participants don`t have to guess.
Here`s another idea - why not ask Lever Arms to cough up a donation for the top prize(s). Donate a case of ammo????

The shooting area is undercover and we will have a spotter for shot confermations.

Are you kidding me!
:D
Those cheap ba$tard's probaly would laugh you right out the store!

Can we set a date for this shoot? How about June 23, 2009, Tuesday, 5:00 p.m.?
Let's be there about 4:45 p.m.

Reading some of your threads, you guys are hotshots. My palms are sweating already. Gotta go and practice.

I have no SKS, but I have a spotting scope and I would be willing to come and be a spotter/scorer if the date works for me. Clays put onto sheets of corroplast with a hot glue gun work good. I think you may need permission from the Range officer to use the clays for targets.

Sounds like fun but the range is closed tues-wed(unless we can book it). We'll have to bring our own gong as the one at the club is more or less non existant. And a can of flouresent paint. I have a few extra guns too. Mid week would be best to avoid the crowds.I'll bring the tools so we can all have a 200 yard zero, (after the match lol)LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Checked the PCDHFC website below and events calendar says range 7 is open on Tuesdays, 5 to 9 pm. Enough time to get in two heats, depending on how many show.

Your suggestion to book the range for our event is good, we should book to be assured of enough tables to sight in, practice, shoot the match and such.

Perhaps we can request another gong or two, even if we had to pay, to speed up.

HUH!?!
I was just there on saturday and Peter just put up an new one and also there is one cut in half that always falls off. Also summer hours Tuesday night's are 5-9 PM and Wensday night's are small bore 7-9PM and Thursday 9 AM to 9 PM. A question I have is...
I don't have any corrosive ammo. Could somebody bring some up for me? Of course I will pay for them. All I have is this Norinco non-corrosive junk.

Done. We'll bring extra ammo/rifles, in case surprise guests show with no equipment.

Actually, I can trade you some CZ corrosive junk for your Norki non-corr junk if you are up to it, say 200 rounds whatever.

I was there last Monday and there wasn't much left of the gong I guess it's new since then. The range doesn't open til 5 pm on Tuesday? Summer hours have started already? Well that's better than being closed. wouldn't think it would be too busy at that time of the evening. Non members was a $20 drop in fee IIRC

Are we OK for June 23, 5 to 9 p.m.?

Just got off the phone with one of the range officers at the POCO range.
They are open for non-members on Tuesday afternoons/eves from 5 to 9 p.m. with a $20.00 drop in fee. Best for us to be there 15 minutes early so we can get tables. We can start the match at 5:30 so we have time to sight-in and settle down. We may be able to run two heats, that is two sets of 20 shots each. That means another box or two of ammo for wagers.

It seems like we can have our little informal gong match and shoot their new round plate, without getting club sanction, as long as our participants all have their PAL/non-restricted.

I think we would need to have at least 2 plates, so need to have one fabricated and hang it on the same bar as the club's plate.

I'll see if I can come up with something. I know some welders that work for beer. Is 8"X8" going to be the standard? Or I can ask for a larger slab around a foot. I'll ask for hangers on the back to go over the pole
