I know for sure that there was an offcut of 1/4" plate that I thought about doubling up into a 1/2" thickness, and I was going to see about finding some 3/8" plate. I also thought about putting the 1/4" AR plate over a 3/4" mild steel plate for a 1" total thickness. Either way we will be shooting at AR plate.

I can personally attest to shooting easily through 3/8" ms plate at about 50m with my m14s using norinco greenbox. I know the AR plate will hold up but I am really curious as to how long it will take to penetrate.

I don't mind donating the gongs to the range, I know some people have expressed concern about them disappearing but I would rather have them available to everyone to be used at anytime as opposed to me bringing them out only occasionally.

I don't think they disappear as much as get destroyed. This design will keep the hangers safe from getting shot off but may hang a little off plumb. Next design will be double faced, the width of the pole, and reversible.......

Thank you EMMAB

Emmab, YOU DA MAN!!! Outstanding job on the gongs. IMO, that is the most sensible design for a gong I've seen. The plate will hang off plumb but that's alright since that means the ricochet will be directed downwards, safer.

Is that 1/2 or 3/8 inch plate?

ok, im going to try to take the day off. Hopefully its not busy, but with the good weather i dont know.
hopefully get to meet some of you on tuesday.

Any rules????

Since this is going to be a friendly shoot-out may I suggest that the organizer(s) (Satain and Easyr) come up and post some minimum (3 - 5 easy & basic) guidelines that will be used for this shootout. Its only a week and a half away and it would be prudent for these simple rules to be posted ahead for all participants to view.
Eliminating/reducing the risk of creating simple disputes can turn this event into a regular great social gathering of CGN SKS owners.
Can you imagine the bragging rights the winner of this first event will have?

Doesn't take rocket science to understand these simple rules. Great list Satain. Am sure all participants appreciate sharing your organizational expertise.

I suggest we add: Each shooter is allowed one spotter/coach to assist him. This spotter/coach is NOT the scorer.

:agree: with above rules and the 1 box ammo entry fee.

Curtton, thank you for your kind offer to share in winner's plaque.
We will definitely post lotsapics! Thanks for your support.

Ya ME:p Thought that it would be a good runner up prize!

WOW, this is getting really interesting! Satain that's very generous. I can feel the excitement.

So Klaus, and all you SKS fans in and aroung the Lower Mainland:

Come join the fun, with or without your SKS. There will be rifles to share.

Anyone observe the attached smileys on Satain's prizes? Got the humor statement the first time around. Admire the effort to gain that ever important psychological edge.
Only way to offset that - lotsa of range practice.:dancingbanana:

You won't have to win to brag. Just be there then you can say "I was one of them". My friend has a CAD laser cutter that does wood, glass and maybe metal. If we can provide a design, say a nice pic or drawing of a russian sks and some words to the effect of winning the comp, size and material, I might be able to get something made up.

ps tug still floating
