How about some double autos

I also have a trio of DA's. My Dad's Twelvette Dragon Black bought new in 1963. A two barrel set Skeet and Trap belonged to my Dad's Uncle in Satin Grey also Twelvette. And a steel reciever Standard with a Cutts that in picked up on this site. No idea how to post pics unfortunately!

How does one post pictures?

Send'er'ear and I'll dew it fur you...................

Still on me bucket list Frankie.
Managed to X one off the list and that was a Belgium BAR in .308win I have wanted
since I was a kid.
Got one off here for a song.
Going to be my hunting companion in this area this year if she can do a job at the range.

I traded a Winchester 101 single bbl trap many moons ago for a brand new never fired Belgian BAR in 308. It had a Bushnell of some sort mounted on it too. It had about 5 rounds through it when I sold it. Should have kept it......maybe??

There was a green one on the EE about 6 months ago. If I recall, it seemed to be in nice shape but I think the price was a little high and it sat on the EE for some time.

This was my Dads, a never sell for me. Its very clean, a couple dings in stock and 1 in forend. Bluing is mint, a real light recoiling shot gun. This is late 60s vintage.

Could be a bit earlier than you may think. Looks to have the tight radius hand grip on the butt stock curved front on the forearm not squared and looks like a recess rib in your pics. Indications of early production. Regardless it's a beauty DA!

Nice looking shotgun. If you haven't seen it, below is a chart to help date your gun.

Date Historic Information Serial Number Info
1955-57 The Double Automatic Shotgun began production in 1955. Accurate production notes were not kept during this time period.
1958-67 From 1958 serial numbers were preceded by the date of manufacture.
8A=aluminum receivers for 1958.
8C=steel receivers for 1958.
Example: 8C21601 = A 1958 Double Automatic with steel receiver and serial number 21601 A=aluminum receiver
C=steel recei
1969-72 In 1969 Browning started using two digits for the date of manufacture which was followed by a four digit code that identified the type of Double Automatic. The Double Automatic ceased production in 1972.
A=aluminum receiver
C=steel receiver
This was then followed by the serial number beginning with 1000.
Example: 69A1000 = A 1969 Double Automatic shotgun with an aluminum receiver and serial number of 1000. A=aluminum receiver
C=steel receiver

Thanks for that Guns, however theres a problem.

I had a closer look and there is no number before the A, theres the 5 digit ser# after but nothing before.

Any ideas what that could mean?

I was thinking ...is it fair to assume that because they used the 8 for 1958 and went to a different system in 1969, that there is no number infront of the A if its a 1968?

From what I found, no number in front of the letter 'A" would be 1960. A number 1 in front of the A would be 1961, number 2 would be 1962 and so on until they went to the 2 digits for the year.
However, there are those that say the charts for double auto serial numbers are not accurate.

The A designates that it is an alloy reciever and with features I mentioned in an earlier post with I believe it to be late '50s manufacture. 1957 or '58 was supposedly last year for the recess rib. But with Brownings anything is possible!

Hey Guys

I have been drooling over a Double Auto for a long time and just picked one up from a fellow member here on CGN. Its a black Twelvette in great shape with a ~26'' barrel with the choke marked as -**. Does anyone know what this means? It doesn't seem to jive with any of the markings I've seen listed. Both MOD and IC don't match at ** and **-? The dash is on the wrong side? If anyone can help me out I'll post some pictures of it lol.

Worst part about getting the DA is that I know a an Auto5 is close behind now haha.

I have read on other sites that sometimes the dash can be placed on either side of the asterisks. Should indicate an I/C choked barrel regardless. They are a terrific upland gun!

Hey Duck, that sounds like great news to me. I can't wait to get it out to the range. I can see more DA's in my future. I almost need one that isn't so nice that I'll be more willing to take into the woods!

Nice looking gun. There are 3 buttplates for the double auto listed for sale under shotgun parts right now.
Is your receiver black or a faded brown?

Sorry, I have neglected this thread. Thanks for mentioning the buttplates. The receiver on mine is brown. I also used the Browning link last winter and found it was manufactured during the late 1950s run.

EDIT: Now I need to figure out which one of the three buttplates match my gun.
