Hey all,
Was wondering tonight, how are the C7s different from other ARs? I heard they are made to withstand extreme cold conditions, but are there any other modifications? Also, could foreign arms be adapted for canadian conditions, ie: Tavor?

Uh, they're adapted to our extreme conditions with an Accu-wedge... And they have a third selector setting on the fire control group.

I remember hearing from some CF guys at the CF booth during the Calgary Stampede a few years back (ok, like 7 or 8 years back, maybe more), and they said the C7 had over 100 improvements (or some other large number)over the US M16.

I find that hard to believe, considering there aren't even close to 100 parts in the thing. :)

Wasn't the forward assist a Canadian Idea?

Well Theres 3 Types of C7's

C7 - A1 Iron Sight
C7A1 Flat Top, Fix Buttstock and C79 Optical Sight
C7A2 Green Handguards, Grip, Car Stock, Triad, Ambi Controls, Green Elcan Sight Cover.

All uses Government Profile Barrel..

And considering they have the auto selector and not burst...

When I trained with the army cadets we also trained on the c7 in my last year.

According to the course instructor its an M16 that is Canadian with 7 modifications. Hence the name C7.

I can only remember three things from the course... improvements to the barrel, the forward assist, and some changes to the bolt assembly. The selector switch mentioned in a previous post is a possibility but I simply can't remember.

Difference between C7A1 and M16A2 IIRC
1) Rearsight
2) Change lever has FA instead of burst
3) Plastic mag
4) C7 works better
5) C7 costs more

We had an American exchange officer come up last year to study with us. He was saying the biggest thing he liked about shooting the C7 was that it had an empty casing deflector. He was a lefty, and he'd be covered in his own brass after a shoot. Can't verify that one myself personally though.
