How bad are your "new" CZ 858 mags?

So in essence, the CZ858, CSA and FSN VZ58's are constructed out of parts from the recycle bin? The "new" mags are just refurbished?

No, not completely correct. There are recycled, new old stock, and new parts on these guns.

I have mags that are brand new in the wax paper wrap.

It makes them much more affordable and I've yet to see any instances of the "old" parts causing any issues.

well guess thats why they're so affordable then :D. oh well i still love my cz858, recycled or not they're still a great gun!.

These rifles are as robust as they come (some say even better than the looser tolerance Kalashnikovs since they are not knocked off all over the place). Once the Czechs and the Slovaks fully adopt their new NATO compliant rifles, arsenal stockpiles will be destroyed/phased out.

I suppose CZ and a few vendors will still hold on with enough parts inventory, but do not expect the rifles to be any cheaper if they choose to re-manufacture whole new rifles down the road.

Enjoy these wonderful rifles while you still can, there were only less than a million made.

A friend of mine who was in the former Czechoslovakian army said that they had big stock piles of replacement parts including new receivers, barrels, furniture, and so on. Since he has family that work for CZUB he told me they manufacture the CZ 858 from these stock piled parts. Chances are, none of the parts on your CZ 858 were never actually used. However, he said they do use parts from used Vz 58s that are in good condition. You can tell the bolt carrier on my Cz 858 is used because it’s a lighter colour that the rest of the gun and there is a lot of handling marks on the bolt handle. I showed the CZ 858 to my friend and he said some of the parts on my 858 are not even the same as what his service rifle had such as the locking lug.

Not overly impressed with my "new" 858's magazines. Two of the mags aren't too bad with only minor paint loss, scratches, and dings. These two are both cracked and have bent floor plates, not impressed.

Wow, sorry to hear you got some cracked mags bud! My CZ came with four very decent mags, with only slight wear on the lips and follower. Even after about a thousand down the pipe my "fav" mag is still in much better shape.

I would suggest asking your vendor. If they adverted it as New, and its cracked, then they have made a mistake and owe you four mags.

Paint issues are nothing, but a crack is BS.

I recieved two good mags out of the four. One has the paint scratched up which is no big deal. The other one does not work. I can put three rounds in it but they fall out. I have not tried to take it apart yet and see what the problem is.

Bit of an update, they offered to replace the cracked mags and send me a Chinese Swiss arms mag. Their website said my Black Special would come with 2 mags but apparently they are now only shipping with one. They didn't repond to my concern that they sent me another customer's invoice, with all his info.

That is not good for the other person. That's one of my fears about buying things online, my info getting misplaced or stolen.

Your cracked mags will be replaced, see my next post for details.
We got caught out as the distributor no longer ships the Swiss arms with two mags, and we hadn’t corrected the info on our web page, we could cover ourselves by saying that we reserve the right to change prices and specifications without notice, but we sent you a free spare mag, we can’t do better than that.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention that you had received another customers invoice in error. Ryan had not replied to that point as we were still trying to work out how it happened. I can assure you that we take this very seriously and we are taking steps internally to minimise the likely hood of it happening again.

CZ 858 Magazines.

When we first introduced the CZ 858 rifle to Canada we were very careful to explain that these rifles were “New production” we never claimed that they were “New rifles” . Over the years as Wolverine Supplies has grown (we now have 15 full time staff) different people have prepared advertising material and the emphasis on “New production” as compared with “New rifles” may have been lost, for that I apologise.

As has been correctly pointed out by previous posts on this thread some parts may be NOS (New Old Stock) this must include the receivers or if they were taken from existing rifles and remanufactured into rifles they could be considered prohibited converted autos, so be careful of making false statements here that could have far reaching repercussions on thousands of Canadian gun owners. All barrels on the 18.6 rifle are new, that is why they are not chrome lined, we could not have new barrels chrome lined and sell the rifle for the same price. All 16 inch barrels are chrome lined as they are surplus (NOS) original military barrels. All other parts could be a mixture of NOS, new manufacture or surplus parts that are still up to the required specs. Originally we advertised the CZ 858 rifle with a mag pouch then CZ ran out so we had guns without, now we are back to supplying them with pouches, we no longer list them as included, they can vary from excellent to rubbish, any pouch you get is a bonus.

Magazines: We have seen these in mint, unused condition and we have received a few that I considered scrap, they cost us the same, spare mags normally arrive in bulk thrown in a box, we put them on special for $25.50. Floor plates may be bent. If the floor plates are broken or the feed lips are cracked when you receive them we will replace them, we try and check them all but due to volume we are bound to have a few poor ones slip through, for that I apologise.

I am considering grading the spare magazines that we have, we could create a Grade I excellent used and a Grade II scruffy, we would have to charge a premium for the Grade I to cover the extra work. I am not keen to do this as it creates extra work and we have to create another SKU # and grade them. In any event we have no control other what condition the mags are that come with the rifles and it simply would not be practical to grade these and create double the SKU # for the rifles.

Before I bought my Cz I did a bit of reasearch and knew what I was buying.

Very happy to report that my mags are all very good with only one with a little wobble but works fine. Also my mag pouch and sheath are new not a mark on them. The sling is useless missing some of it but I dont care.
The rifle is also in great shape other than the extractor pin is a little banged up but also works fine.

So over all I am very happy with the purchase and the peace of mind that if I do have a problem It will be fixed with no hassle.

Kudos to Wolverine and the dealers for standing 100% behind what they sell.

Wolverine is dealing with my mag problems in an appropriate matter. I was initially upset (understandably I think for the number of problems with one order) but when I get my mags I'll be satisfied.

Good to hear that you're looking into it.

I'm not sure if it helps, but the invoice was loose in the box with the CZ. We both bought a CZ and B&T mag adapter. Our rifles had nearly identical serial numbers, the only difference was one ended with a 6, the other with a 9. I suspect the serial number may have had something to do with it.

I took a look at all of my magazines and all of them are like that. I then asked my friend why they are like this and this is how he explaned it to me. Put the magazine into the gun then rest that bend on the ground or table. If you notice, it rests on that bend perfectly. You could use your magazine as a support well prone or on a wall or something. If that wasen't bent, then you wouldn't beable to rest the magazine on the ground or wall. If you notice the wear marks on that part of the magazine, I would say he is telling the truth as it looks like all of mine have been used that way. He also said it was more for a saftey reason why they bent that floor plate peice. If someone got a stick or something snagged in there, it would rip the floor plate right off. He is a pretty interesting guy to talk to if you want to know anything about the Vz 58 and its variants. He even showed me what they do to stop stubborn side folding stock from flopping around all over the place. He also showed me a cool way to unload a magazine in seconds. You place your thumb over the bullet part of the cartridge and press down over and over and all the rounds in the magazine will come spraying out really fast.
