I am going to get my first real gun soon and I want a ppk but it is prohibited. So how can I get it? I hear there are long/hard ways to get your self a prohibited gun. But what are they? Does it help that I am joining the army. Are there any loop holes in the laws?:runaway:

There is a loophole, as far as I know, starting a Firearm business, you can ask for a Prohibited device/firearm license, but it's only good for the business.

Perhaps you may want to to take the firearms safety course first...many of your questions will be answered...

Prohibs

The only way to get prohibs is if you get them from your father, mother grand father or maybe an uncle that has the 12-6 status. It only applies to firearms manufactured before 1946. If they are handed down to you, it doesn't mean you can go out and buy more this class is 12-7. Look the information up on the CFC sight regarding the subject.
Other than that you could purchase longer barrels of 105mm + for 38, 380, 9mm, and 22 to convert guns to nonrestricted. The 25 and 32 cals can't be taken out of the 12-6 prohibited class with longer barrels.

Only 1 loophole... If you are related to someone with a 12.6 licence then you can legally be given a pre-1946 dated 12.6 prohibited handgun by said relative. Your licence would then become a 12.7 (meaning that you can possess the gun given to you but not acquire more). I don't know how distant that relative is allowed to be. For me it's my grandfather.

If you do have a relative with a 12.6 you'll be able to get an early manufacture PPK (they started production in the late 1930's I believe). You'll probably pay in the $400-$600 range for a wartime example but they're very hard to find.

No such relative? No PPK unless the barrel is longer than 4". Period.

So where can I get a ppk with an extended barrel. My friend ordered a compact glock from the U.S and they just made the barrel longer and shipped it to Canada. Can I do that with the ppk?/ How?

More likely you'll need to find a PPK, then agree with the seller that it gets sent to a gunsmith who can put a custom length barrel on it, and have him varify it and get it reclassified as a restricted. In BC Barry at Bits Of Pieces in Delta can do it for $175 - $225, depending on whether the calibre needs to go from .32 - .380 as well as the longer barrel or just the longer barrel. I myself am interesting in having this done when I get the money and find a decent Walther PP (the PP won't look as silly as the PPK).

Waste of time and money in my opinion, unless you think your going to die without it. If your looking for your first gun, you would be better of starting with a decent quality .22 with adjustable sights. I know it does'nt have the so called cool factor of a PPK/PP or something similar. The .22 would be whole lot cheaper to shoot and lot more accurate than what would be at best a bastardised saturday night special. Then if and when you learn to shoot the .22 you could move up to a modern Semi-Auto. like the Smith&Wesson M&P, Glocks CZ, ect. The newer guns would be quite a bit more accurate and reliable. As for importing from the US, check with Questar International. They do it quite often.
Also if you don't have your RPAL, I would get that before you start looking for guns to buy. Plus go on the Canadian Firearms Centre website to look for more info.

Might as well get yourself a Glock 18, a couple AK's and a MP5 while your at it. There easy to come by......OH and dont forget your 50cal handgun..everyone needs one of those LMAO

Go take your safety course before you ask anymore questions. Im sure you will get all the answers you will need when you do.

Not true, your business must already have a prohib lic holder and all guns obtained by the business are registered into his name, and then transfered to the prohib customer. If you do not have a employee with a 12(6) you then are SOL.
