How CGNers made me a better shot.

Eagleye, you're just not abusing them correctly !!! If you put way more powder in them cases and set the triggers down to .0001" sear engagement, you can consistantly reproduce all the above flaws, including knock the handle off with a good rap (I've never been able to reproduce this one). You do have to pay attention when you pry the case off the bolt face to get the correct orientation to rip the extractor off. You will notice that the ejector plunger is now stuck in the hole too.

vviking, I just guess I'm sh!thouse lucky 'cause before I had all this new found knowledge, I just went out and shot everything with my 700s and never knew what danger I was in. I have shot all sorts of nasty, bities without the slightest notion I was tempting death, each and every time!! Not to mention all those once-in-a-lifetime trophies that should have gotten away due to rifle failure. I'm with Eagleye, I'm selling all my Rems, before they get me killed and buying mossbergs or salvages or maybe stevens. I'll have to do a bunch more research and get some good advice from the guys on here, for sure!!

Yes, to fully appreciate the Remington 700 experience, you must play by the rules! Oh by the way, here's a loading tip . . . conventional powders are such a nuisance because they bulk out so quickly, so whenever you see H-4831, just substitute an equal amount of SR-4759, in fact you don't even need to weigh it, just dip the case into the powder then bump out enough to make room for the bullet. This will speed up the loading process and add much more to your Remington experience.

Hey Doug, when you start to sell off all that junk, I'd appreciate first refusal on the M-7 .350 mag! If I found an fully experienced Savage 340, we could trade straight across, I wouldn't even expect you to top off the deal with extra cash. Whatya say pal, is that a deal or what?

Funny thing. I have owned over 100 Remington 700's in my lifetime.
Still own a lot of them.
A couple of these rifles are on their 3rd barrel, several are on the second barrel.

Eagleye.

Why the hell do you continue to buy these things? In addition to all their other problems, you seem to have proved that they have defective barrels!

I must be really lucky, because I have a Remington 722 in 257 Roberts that I bought used about 50 years ago. It had the Acidental Discharge problem with safety pushed off when I set the trigger pull down to where 3 mosquitos would trip it. I had to have the extractor replaced because it started to misbehave and I did manage to pull off the bolt handle when extracting a tight cartridge and had it re-silver soldered. Did the safety modification so the action would cycle with it on. Still on the first barrel though and very accurate. I will keep working on that last problem.

CGN made me a better shot because when i discover all those nice sponsors, i had access to rifles, i had never heard of before... JP.

Exactly correct, J.P. When you discovered the sponsors, it gave me vicarious access to all sorts of cool stuff I had never heard of either, i.e. the Nemesis!

What are we buying next?;)

Save some money for ammo and just buy a remington 710.:)It's the improved rem 700 version. You'll never have to wonder about replacing the barrel(it's not threaded) or wondering if there is any chance the bolt handle or whole bolt may pull out of the receiver while working it unlike your 700 model.
