How come I don't get nuthin???

I have a book which has a picture of a British EX trials rifle. The butstock looks identical to the one in your picture, and it is definitely "light" (ie: beech or something not walnut). Could be the stock is originally from a British trials rifle or a spare aquired for a CDN EX1 from FN or the Brits?

And I was just getting over the depression of missing this item, with the slight condolence that it might not even have been an EX stock. :(

It was my understanding that the Brit X8 series and our EX1 series were both similar, if not the same, early production models from FN. Any chance of a scan of the photo from your book? There is so little out there on the EX series of rifles, that the thirst for any information is rarely quenched.

At this point, I have the EX1, 3 FN C1A1s, and a FNC2A1, (all dewats) so the only rifle I need to find yet is an EX2. Surely that's not too much to hope for.

The book is a small hard-cover that I have had since I was a teenager. Unfortunately it is small (9'x9') when open and the pictures run over both pages, so I am not sure how well it will come out if I try (it is also very stiff and old). If it does work, I am sure you will like it. The page in question shows:

1.An S.L.E.M (Saive's project gun in Britain during the war, fore-runner of the SAFN 49),

2. One of the early prototypes in .280/30 (prototype number 17 is exactly like this one, also called the CAMP carbine, one of two ordered by Canada after the 1950 Aberdeen trials). It can be seen in the CWM (new one).

3. The rifle I mentioned, looks like an X8E5, with the high rear sight, and what became the Israeli cocking handle.

The picture also shows the cartridges for comparrison, (and there is an error, they show anothe .280 instead of the 8mm for the SLEM.

Yes, I was right, didn't come out too well, but here it is anyway.
