How common is the HK P7 way up north?

I love the P7 design as well! The M8 could possibly be the most compact non prohibited handgun we can get here in Canada. We have very stupid laws up here minimouse! To demonstrate, here is my p7 M8 beside my 4" Colt Anaconda:

This Anaconda, perhaps the biggest prohibited handgun you can get, is considered by the government to be easier to conceal than the P7?!?!

The M10 is the really fat-looking one which is on the far left in the top picture, and upside down in the lower picture. The barrel sits very far back in the design of the gun, behind the trigger, making it much shorter upfront than would otherwise be the case. The Boberg pistol of todays era is the same way. All the P7 pistols in these photos are restricted. The P7K3 is prohib for barrel length, but the rest of them are, or should be, classified as restricted.

This is that same M10:

People (who generally have no experience with them and only ever saw them on the internet) always go on-and-on about how bulky and fat it is. It is heavy, for sure, but it is compact compared to a lot of more modern pistols. Here it is with a USP. Which is the bulky one?

The smallest one (that I have) is the original PSP:

The P7K3 is smaller, but the barrel is under 105mm, so it is prohibited, and they were rare as hen's teeth in both Canada and the U.S. to begin with. I have seen people posting "WTB" adds for them in Canada, but I have never seen or heard of one being offered for sale in Canada. Not in the past 10-15 years anyway. This is pic of one that sold on Gunbroker:

Thanks for the great pics and info! I would have sworn the M10 was prohib! I sold my M8 this year and had to go through the reclassification process as it had 102mm on the original paperwork! The reclassification didn't take too long.
I loved the gun and now I've lost the only truly neat gun in my collection. The only issue I had with the M8 was that it has a knack of bruising my middle finger when I shoot it. I must have soft Palmolive hands! I have no issue with any other guns with "normal" grips.

Nice collection, ghostie! And yes, pypes, you do have some strange laws up that way. The P7 is my every day concealed carry gun, and it is superb in that role--slim, flat, compact, accurate and reliable, with a wonderful trigger and great sights.

When did they get surplussed? I've only see one or two at gun shops used for a pretty hefty price.

But I'm one of them young fellers with plasticy Glocks 'n' such ;)

P7 is an awesome gun I had the airsoft model when i was a kid and got a chance to shoot one in Vegas long ago when I just got my FAC and been wanting one ever since. I bought one earlier this year and its freakin awesome the only complain I have about it is it get very hot after about 8-9 mags but its so freakin awesome that I really don't mind it. I'm in the hunt for teh M10 and M13 so if any of you "oldies" want to get rid of some M10 and M13 please let me know or point me to the right person.

The M10'has always been restricted. There have been a few P7's that fell into prohib status by people that don't have a clue how to measure barrel length in Canada. I've owned a P7 PSP and a P7M13. Neither of which have made it to a year before I sold them.

Glad you are enjoying the gun ;)!!
I'm loving mine too!

What didn't you like about them? I would have kept one just for collection's sake. They are exceptionally well made guns except for the overheating issue!
You must have gotten an offer you couldn't refuse!!

What's so collectible about them? They aren't rare or an important pistol in history and personally I find them big and chunky with the squeeze cocking mechanism. The M13 is one really chubby pistol with the double stack magazine. With the Boberg XR9-L being available in Canada the P7 isn't that small either which was one of the main appeals to people.

So really why bother spending $1200(PSP) - $3500+(M10) on a used pistol ????!

The P7 is the only squeeze cocking gun I know of so that makes it unique in some way. Also the fact that they are going for so much means they are collectable to someone, just like SIG210s and Pythons. I agree about the chunky grip. Still I have seller's regret on getting rid of mine because I know I will never afford or justify to buy one back now.

I find it interesting that you assume because they are pricey they are collectible but you don't know why. They are chunky pistols that heat up really bad really quickly. Where is the collectibility in that? I would never dream of putting the P7 or Sig P210s I'm the same category as the Colt Python, that's just insulting the python. ###iest revolver in the world.

I like my PSP. Yes they heat up very quickly and in summer that can sting a bit if firing a lot. The trigger is excellent and with the fixed barrel it's very accurate. I like that mine has West German police markings and the price was right. Of course it's very compact. Yes the new bullpup pistol is smaller but it feeds rounds in backwards and you can only feed it ammo on the approved nit to jam list. The PSP has never failed or jammed on me.

This pistol was designed for in close, few shots and accuracy with a quick to deactivate safety mechanism that also allows a very nice trigger. It's a Police pistol.

I'm keeping mine.

We were issued them on OPP Drug Enforcement Section back in 1985, (there were 3 other sections in the OPP that were issued them also), have carried numerous duty weapons over the years and none came close to the carryability, (don't think that word exists), pointability, safety and overall design as was stated before, a "police" pistol, it was a sad day when they asked for them back and issued the Sigs. I was lucky enough to pick one up brand new in the box a couple of years later.
A great sidearm, never jammed, no FTE, no FTF, nothing, it is one of my never sell firearms. Smitty223
