hey just wondering i own a cupple long rifles but about to buy my first handgun and just wondering how i go about getting my transport so i can get it from the mail to my house.... at least... and how long does it mostly take to get one

Either call the cfc, and they'll patch you through to your cfo, or call your cfo direct. You just need to ask for a short term authorization to transport. It's usually pretty quick. It will be good for how ever many hours.

I think I got mine faxed, but I've seen it mentioned that they will also e-mail them.:)

I don't think you need an ATT to pick it up at the post office and transport it to your home. As long as you don't unpackage it before you get home, it's just a package in the mail. I had one shipped to me through the mail, from a dealer. I got the regular slip in my mailbox to go pick up my parcel. It could have been a box of Twinkies while it sat on the front seat of my truck coming home from the post office.

My son picked up his ruger from the post office and when he applied for his long term ATT they asked him how he got it home. He said that he got a card in the mail saying there was a parcel at the post office. They told him that he needed an ATT to pick it up at the PO. They also told him that he would have a note on his file because of the violation. Go figure.

How are you supposed to know what's in the package if there is no overt indication on the outside?

Just my thinking, but does the transfer authorization not cover the transfer door to door?

In fact after rereading my last transfer authorization it does state sellers residence to buyers residence, so the post office is just a stop on the road so to speak.

No. This topic has been extensively discussed on this site. The only way to be sure is to check with your provicial CFO. To be honest, I think it depends who answers the call and what day of the week it is. In Alberta I've been told I need an ATT to pick up a restricted firearm at the post office.

Technically, if you "know" it's a restricted firearm you also need to take your trigger lock with you, unpack the package at the post office and put the trigger lock on it before taking it home.

It's BS, but there you are. ;)

Has anyone actually written their cfo and got clarification on this?? I'm from the better safe than sorry school of thought, and just get temp att's to cover my tail.

From talk in another thread on this subject, it seems it isn't law, just something the cfo's make up on the fly. If it is not law, how can they enforce it??

Would one of our letter guru's be willing to ask?? Something to the tune of.
Is it law?? If so, where does it state this.
If it isn't, how can you enforce it??
Are you in effect, making a firearms owner commit a paper crime by transporting without a trigger lock?
What are the consequences of not getting a statt?(someone mentioned a violation of some sort on their file).

My letter writing skills suck to say the least, but it would be very interesting to get a response, and let others know. Thoughts??

What about first time ATT?

Hi guys and gals long time lurker first time poster. I have a question or questions, in BC, how long does it usually take to get a temp att to get it home from the store if your there in person? This will be my first restricted purchase, will that lengthen the process? Can I obtain one before hand without knowing what model and serial number I can't see it but our Government is so "effeciant" I have seen stranger things happen. Any info would help, thank you for your patience in this.

Y'see... it doesn't pay to be honest all the time...
My answere would have been.. "The mailman dropped it off at my door".

Or.. If you want to add even more plausible deniability tell 'em someone else in the household went to the post office and picked up all the mail for your address and the package containing the pistol just happened to be one of 'em.... Maybe you can get your Mom, Dad, Brother, Sisiter, Wife, Kid thrown into jail :D

I mean really... I pick up stuff at the PO all the time... 'How am I supposed to be sure what waiting there for me.. A pistol I bought on the EE from another CGNer or an antique ###ual device I bought on the EE from another CGNer?..(Thanks bersmith. My porcelin dildo collection is now complete)

When I picked up my pistol at the post office, I thought it was actually some books I had ordered. It's hard to get an ATT when you don't know your even picking up a gun.

As for the note on his file, someone likes their job too much.

man , i am sure they would love that , unpack your new ar15 right in the post office, and put on the lock . what would they say lol , or better yet do it in the front seat of your truck in the parking lot lol

:bangHead: The more people keep digging into the issue of picking up a package at the post office that may contain a restricted firearm, the sooner the f**kin CFO will realize there may be a slight loophole in there system, then once again we will have even more restrictions put on us!!:slap:
