How do you carry/store your Precision Rifle?

I've run Pelican and the Cabelas Xtreme case, not much difference aside from the cubed foam. Both very strong. I depend on Pelicans for most of my field gear (more $$$ and more fragile than guns) and they work well, but I've not had any issues with the Cabelas cases either.

For soft bags, the Cadex line is quite stiff and padded very well. Much more than others I've had. For range trips it works well as long as you don't put other gear on it. For hiking, a good sling or my Eberlstock work very well.

For people worried about damage in a soft case. What damage? Bent barrels? Twisted scope rings? If you're talking about spending 300-400 on a Pelican case for transport, I'm assuming you have a decent rifle with solid rings and optics, and i bet 80% of the replies here are talking about NF, Steiner, Vortex HD, S&B, etc, with quality rings and rails, heavy barrels, excellent stocks or chassis rifles.

What makes you think ANYTHING you do to it in a decent soft case will damage it between your house and the field or range? I think they are much tougher than you expect, unless you are worried about dents and dings from use. ;)

I put quite a few backcountry miles on my Eberlstock pack with scabbard, using the scabbarad as the case when tossing it in the truck or bed of the truck, then hiking to shoot, then home again. At that time I was hauling a TRG22 with a NF on it. never had an issue in 2 years. These days, I'm not so fussy I guess. Unless I'm stacking cases in the truck, a soft case is all that's warranted.

Mine lives in a stack-on cabinet. When I go to the local range, I just toss it in a soft drag bag/shooting mat, but when I go any distance with the guys, and there is a risk crap may get tossed on it, the bag gets tossed in a Pelican for transport. I love the softbag/shooting combination, and I can't forsee me getting away from it if I don't need to. I prefer a less airtight, gun cabinet for long term storage. Something like a pelican for long term storage would encourage rust if there is any humidity at all when it gets closed up.

my DT has been fine in the pelican since October. Last time I had it out it was raining. Not a single bit of rust or anything, and its been locked up for months recently opened it to inspect and there has been zero issues.

Very cool, might have to pick one up. As for me, I store and transport mine in a hard pelican case.

Yeah, for those that didn't click the link, the gun scabbard is a drag bag. Attached to the pack, it's a scabbard, unzip and it's a drag bag. The pack itself is large. Can carry all of your range goods, including ammo. And like most eberlestocks, it can carry more weight than you can. Lol.

I used a hard case at first but they are so big and clunky and awkward that I almost exclusively use a soft case. For my bow I use a hard case because my soft case allowed my string to become frayed, which could have been very dangerous for me. But for rifles, I have not, knock on wood, had any problems.

Thread needs more pics!

Eagle industries drag bag/shooting mat with eagle industries scope and crown cover. Thats just for range trips though, its light and compact.

Mine spends most of its life in a drag bag/shooters mat.
If it will encounter rough handling it goes into the pelican case while in the drag bag.
I also have the foam for the Pelican case but I never use it since I would still have to transport the drag bag/ shooters mat to shoot off of.

For those that use a drag bag inside a Pelican, can you recommend a bag that fits well in a 1750? I had a drag bag but it was about 3" too long to fit inside the Pelican.
