how do you pronounce coyote?

In my hunting class, our old timer instructor was talking about how to read coyote's tracks. One guy in front of the class raises his hand and asks:
"What is a ka-yoot?" Reminded me of "My cousin Vinny"

In Ontario, it is "kah-yo-tee".

I can't believe it!! Three pages an nobody has mentioned the real reason.

The correct term is ki-ote. The only reason anybody calls them ki-O-tee's is because the Bug's Bunny cartoon character was given the name Wyle E. Coyotee, and ki-O-tee stuck. So much so I think it's the more common pronunciation.

I think that's a myth. As far as I'm aware, we borrowed the word from Spanish, which uses the 3 syllable version (like the cartoon). That said, i pronounce it Ki-yote.
