i just bought a sks surplus rifle and since i live far away from my range i never even shot it before i modded it.

i put an ATI tactical stock on it
then i put a magwedge scope mount on it,
bought a banana clip for it, so flipdown box magazine had to go

in the process every piece of gun came apart almost

i think i got it back together correctly

now too eager to see if clip and everything else worked [except firing pin, lol] i loaded it and inserted it , it has to be slammed in.
then pulled bolt back to put one in the pipe.
this is all in my basement

now i have a loaded weapon and cant figure how to unload it?
carefully jigggling it with safety on then safety off i somehow managed to get it open that once and then could even remove clip and 4 remaining bullets, i had to partially cycle the bolt to get bullets half in pipe then fingernail them out to avoid a loaded weapon again and not be sure how to remove/unload it safely.

so how does the sks get unloaded safely when you cant just fire the last round in the pipe/clip?

With the original mag you can drop the mag then eject the chambered round by pulling open the bolt...

I'm unfamiliar with aftermarket mags... And why you have a loaded weapon in your basement.

Pop the release on where the mag meets the stock and boolits fall out the bottom.

he has an aftermarket mag to make it look like a AK.

Clip, weapon, bullet? Aw, I won't go there.;)
^^^ this ^^^
and
If you didn't know how to unload it why did you load it in the first place?
No function check after doing mods?
Please let me know where you live so I can steer clear of there.

P.S. Banana Clips

If your bolt was closed you should not have been able to put the magazine in the rifle unless you have modified the bolt. When you slammed the magazine in did you damage the magazine lips?

Before loading your SKS did you clean it? It is possible for an SKS to slam fire (fire when the bolt closes). You need to strip and clean the bolt and firing pin to prevent this.

You shouldn't own a firearm

Give the guy a break. We all make mistakes. But if the rifle is still loaded with live ammo this can end badly.

So kravmaga79here is what you need to do:

1. Stop trying to fix this yourself. You clearly don't have the skill to address this but you can certainly cause the rifle to fire inadvertently. So please stop.
2. Determine a safe area in your basement (one which doesn't look into your neighbor's yard or the street).Make sure that the muzzle is not pointed upwards towards the living quarters of your house either
3. Point the rifle to the safe area and move it there. Leave it on the floor pointing to the safe direction.
4. Call someone with experience who could come to your place and discharge the rifle.
5. Do not leave it unattended if there are other people in the house especially little kids, etc.

If you are close to GTA North send me an IM - I maybe able to drop by sometimes tomorrow.

There's mistakes!!!! Then there's total lack is comprehension.

I agree with the fellow that said you should not own firearms. You claim to have modded a rifle yet you don't even know how it functions? You do know it is illegal to load a firearm anywhere where it is illegal to discharge it... I refuse to answer because if you are that incompetent of it's function, who's to say you won't hurt yourself trying to follow our instructions. There is so much fail with this thread that it boggles the mind... Holy Crap!! It had my sphincter puckering just reading it...

The wolves are starting to group. I suggest you defend yourself.

Unload your weapon! (yes, I'm not afraid to call it a weapon)

Get to know your rifle. Field strip it enough times until you can do it blind folded! Get some snap caps and practice, practice, practice. It's not a toy!

If your new to the SKS I suggest you revert to stock form instead of getting horny over modding it.

The bolt needs to be locked back to remove or insert those duckbill magazines. If the gun is loaded and there is more ammunition in the magazine but you want to unload it, then you need to do the most awkward think of holding the bolt back while removing the magazine with your other hand. Or just cycle the bolt until the magazine is empty.

Ok, first point:

The weapon does not need to be "discharged" it needs to be UNLOADED (words mean everything) and someone who knows what they are doing won't "Safely discharge" it in this situation, they will safely unload it

Second point:

GET SOME SNAP CAPS or dummy rounds or whatever. DO NOT use live ammo to test weapon cycling, not ever.

1- prior to do anything with a firearm you should familiarize yourself with it

2- NEVER load live ammo into a firearm unless you intent to shoot, like at the range or in the wood.

3- find someone to teach you about the SKS and obviously basic firearm safe handling
