Hi, I understand this may be a newbie question but I couldn't seem to find the more detailed steps/procedures anywhere.

Yes, I already understand the RCMP definition of what is a restricted firearm (barrel length less than 470mm /18.5"), and Non-Restricted being the opposite, barrel length being at least 470mm/18.5" or greater.

So then the question is how would I go about making my current RESTRICTED CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 pistol with it's factory 7 3/8" barrel into a NON-RESTRICTED firearm?

Yes, I would need to purchase an 18.5" barrel (can i purchase this anywhere? Recommendations?)

What would I file/report to the CFO/RCMP? What are the proper steps/procedures? Are there associated costs other than my purchase of the barrel and gunsmithing costs? Is this tedious and even worth my time?

Lastly, recommending your shroud options on a 18.5" carbine/rifle length Scorpion would also be much appreciated :) (HBI one I like but seems too short for an 18.5" barrel)

Thanks!

Some were imported as handguns and can never be deregistered. Otherwise, it's fairly easy if you have some tools and moderate ability.

Source a barrel, disassemble your gun, separate the barrel from the trunnion, switch barrels, make sure to line up the extractor relief, and reassemble. Call the firearms center and inform them of the changes. They might accept pictures but they will probably make you take the gun to a verifier. After that wait about a month for a new registration and you're done.

Sourcing a barrel with the extractor relief is probably the hardest part. I don't think anyone is importing them now that you can buy a 18.6 off the shelf.

If it is registered as a handgun, you will not be able to have it reclassified as n-r no matter what you do to it.

Have a 18.7 inch (475 mm) barrel installed.
Contact the CFO and a verifier.
Have the firearm verified, as "non commercial customization" FRN 136082 -12.

Now it is Non-Restricted.

That would work if his CZ was currently registered as a restricted rifle however there was that one little part where he said his CZ is a pistol

Which is why I previously said for him to sell it and buy a NR version.

Funny as I verified one last month that started life as a pistol.
With the new barrel the CFO changes it to non-restricted.
Possibly the EVO is a short barreled rifle/ carbine hence the 5 round magazine.

Long established policy is once a handgun, always restricted.
Wonder if the policy has changed, or if it just slipped through.

Yup, I figured that's one option but I have yet to determine if it is the most cost effective instead of switching out the barrel and going through whatever CFO steps may be involved.

Get in touch with DLask Arms. They used to convert R to NR. But as others said sell an R version and buy a new NR.

, Maybe, they just thought it started life as a rifle?
Sounds strange, before you started any work, or spent money , I would want to have a letter from them that it is possible.
I do know that you can't make a non restricted revolver or pistol,no matter how long the barrel is.
Same silly crap as you can buy a 8 or 10 inch shot gun, but you can't make one.

They are considered a commercial variant of a sub gun. neither rifle or pistol which is why they can only have a 5 rd magazine. This is what cz told me when I inquired about 10 rd mags. I don't understand it, but that's nothing new when it comes to gun classifications

So does anyone know if the "commercial variant" can be re-classed or do we need to call the CFP and investigate if it is further classed as a pistol or rifle on our particular certificate?

Very oddly the pistol length ones with the 198mm barrel are handguns but 196mm barrels are rifles.

I would still call in and check, but that’s from the FRT.
