How hard to import: Valmet Hunter, the Valmet Hunter Auto and the Valmet M78

When I created this post I didn't realize that Valmets were no longer being made :redface:
I've since decided to just go with the good 'ol AR for now until something new comes to the market.

It's not like there's a huge surplus of Valmet M78s and Hunters down in the US. I browse gunbroker and some forums whenever I think of it and I rarely see one. The few I see are pretty expensive as well.
It's probably my bad luck in not looking regularly enough though.
Congradulations on the good find at Valmet.org, I wondered who bought that one. :)
 
To me the value of getting a 78 is to finger salute the Libs. If the SAP issue gets resolves, it becomes a very expensive salute. The 858 is just as an effective statement.

BTW: It seems some people have adapted Galil and G3 mags. Do these really work?

Damn I forgot all about gunsamerica! Most of the Valmets are around $2000 U.S still except for the odd one in .223.

What's with the one for $12,000? Is he insane?

If you watch there are other site that freqiently have Valmets for sale that can be imported to canada.

If there are parts and accessories then the price goes up.

What did I do about the mags? I traded them for 5 rounders as I did not like the idea of a run-in with customs..... it takes a few weeks to get the paperwork done up. Plenty of time to trade them for what you want (5 rounders) in the USA...... plus it is a Hunter, not a M78.. the M78 needs the larger mags for the LCF, but not so in the hunter......

My NIB Valmet from 1986 has just arrived!!! Box & Papers match the rifle SN.
