How is the quality on the Norinco YL-1JZ 'M-37 Tactical'

I have the 'non tactical' version, black synthetic stock, 19" barrel. Great little gun, like the fact that shells eject downward.

Shoots fairly well, can put 5/5 slugs inside 8" at 25 m. Good enough for my 'house gun'

I have one and have 2 more in my circle of friends/family. All have been shot lots, mine has over 700 buckshot and is coming close to 300 slugs thru it. All 3 needed a good cleaning before firing.

This shotgun is built like a tank, it is heavier than it looks. It is BY FAR the most comfortable shotgun I have ever fire with heavy buckshot and slug loads. All other folding stock shotguns I have fired with buck and slug loads have had very heavy recoil, and have been literally painful to shoot a few boxes of shells from.

Even my 870p with conventional stock is much more unconfortable to shoot with heavy loads, than the Norinco is. The Norinco needs a few boxes to smooth up the pumping action, or a good disasembly and deburing. Mine is now just as smooth operating as a well used 870.

This gun is an incredible deal for what you get. The sights alone are worth the retail price, never mind all the other features it has. The only way to improve it would be to offer it with a 14" barrel. There was one fellow on this board who had one that would not feed 3" magnums. I have put 3 boxes of old 3" goose loads thru mine with no problems, my brother has put many more than that thru his with no problems.

What have you been shooting with this Shotgun? It designed for selfdefence and police operations? I am just curious

I use it to shoot whatever the hell I want to shoot with it. It is my sometime carry gun for grizzly and blackbear and cougar protection, but its to heavy for the rest of my family to use.

How do you come to the conclusion any gun is just for self defense and police operations? Does this mean I have to take it to Tim Hortons when I want a doughnut?

O, you also have the right to "security of person", which means you have the right to self defense, according to the charter or rights and freedoms.

I never thought this type of weapon can successfully be used for hunting.

Not any gun is for selfdefense some guns because of there design they are better suited for police operations and selfdefence. Such as the weapon in question. I have a couple of the same general design but with a wooden stock. I never take them hunting I do not think they are adequate for that task but again that is my own personal experience and others may have other opinions and experiences.

Although taking a shotgun to the Tim Hortons is sometime a good idea to jump ahead the long line ups I do not encourage it.

Thanks for the (mostly useful) comments. I was thinking of getting one of these, the price is certainly right and it looks like it has some decent bells and whistles :)

To put it in a nice whay COMPLET SH*T.
6 OF MY BUDDYS HAVE THEM AND ONLY 1 OF THEM WORKS
THE ONE WITHTHE 25LB TRIGGER PULL.

Pump ,click, pump, bang, pump, click, pump, bang.
most of them do that but his allways does it, even when i shoot it.

Did your six buddies buy them from Marstar? If so, did they get them replaced or repaired in the first year, or did these problems come up after the warranty period?

You do realize that this new board has a neat little feature like spell check makes it easier to read when one doesn't have to decipher the replies...

6 guys? None sent them back? Have they been disasembled and cleaned? Are you sure it isn't an ammo problem? You seem to have the opoosite expierience I have had. Has Marstar been informed of this? Did they all buy them at the same time, or did they say " hey this one doesn't work, leta buy another one ,and another one ..."

its seems that after 500rds or so they atart having problems.
all of the guys figgered they were just not used to the gun, so just put up with it.

Wow and I was trying to be helpful, not many realize this feature. Course, nothing makes one look less intelligent, troll like or like a 12 year old arm chair commando than someone using "kids slang"...... :D

Your move....

Relax, people have been #####ing about Simon's spelling since the board began. It's almost an inside joke now. He's a decent man, just with a tortured command of keyboard control. Get over it, everyone else has.:)

LMAO
I getz da saime vit my spealing.
But seriously, as lond as you understand what the other is saying is all that matters.
Now enough with the hijacking, I was thinking about that same model shotgun but got quality Russian tools instead.
