How long does a S&W 629 last? Let's find out! 13K+ now

There are so many it "just can't be possible that a S&W could be faulty it must be the ammo" Just like what happened with the guy on the S&W forum. He used Fiocchi factory ammo and of course it was the ammo's fault as it just couldn't be a faulty S&W revolver!!! I have shot a ton of Fiocchi and never once was there any issue with it.
You used reloads and of course it just had to be your fault, everything from a overload to one stuck in the barrel. S&W's quality control is just terrible this last few years.

And his blowed up real good. I've got some other things to deal with right but will follow up on this soon.

My common range load uses 21.5 grains with a Campro 240 gr TMJ. Hodgdon shows 22.0 as the starting load but I've come to like mine a lot. It's very accurate (relative to the operator) out of a 6.5" barrel and has been easy on everything. Brass, gun, hearing. hands etc. Always goes *boom* and burns pretty clean. I've tried more powder up to a mildly compressed load (freaks me out) but didn't notice much difference. But it has been a while so as I have 200 well used Federal cases waiting, I'll load a hundred at around 22.5 and the rest at 23.5 plus or minus depending on how the measure disc works out and see what happens.

Thank you brother

Just got back from the range. I tried 24gr of h110 under the 240gr Campro bullet with magnum primers. Very nice fireballs and managable recoil, good powder burn and accurate. This is listed as the max load on the hodgdon website. I'm wondering if I should experiment with a little more powder.....

Five years ago Fiocchi recalled a large amount of 9mm - because it was blowing up people's guns. Bad factory ammo does indeed happen, WWB is largely garbage for example, and I've personally had over pressure loads from both WWB and UMC ammo.

I messed up loading some of those by using my usual volume measure but with a new jug of powder. Ended up at 24.4gr of H-110 due the new powder being considerably denser, so now I'm going to pull the bullets and reduce the charge.
Fortunately it's only 25 pieces. Would it have mattered? One way to find out but since I don't want to, Ima gonna take 'em apart while I still have all my fingers.

I've read on a forum some people are loading up to 26.5gr of h110 over a 240gr bullet and aren't experiencing over pressure signs...

How do you find the Campros respond to the same charges as 240XTPs? I'm using a little more than 24.4H110 with 240XTPs with no pressure signs, although they feed a Blackhawk.

4146 rounds now. What an absolutely fantastic day at the range today. I was late getting there but it worked out great because I ran into a couple of friends and the young lady from Germany that is going to be a nanny for one of them.
I got to shoot an HK 45 and a Savage XTR, both beautiful guns. That HK feels oh so nice and the Savage is a work of art. But I digress, so another 300 rounds through the 629 which included 100 of 22.0gr of IMR 4227, 100 of 23.3gr of IMR 4227 in 12 times fired Federal brass, S&B primers and Canpro 240gr TMJ's. The 22.0gr load really wasn't enough different from the 21.5gr load to even be noticeable. The 23.3gr version was and might become my new "light" load. Definitely more punch but still very gentle and manageable to shoot. The 23.5gr W-296 in 2 times fired Starline brass with an S&B LP and the usual Campro 240 TMJ is just fine the way it is and will continue to be my hot range load. The 28.0gr of H-110 in 2 times fired Starline, WLP and Nosler 200gr JHP is a hoot. Turns heads but isn't quite as obnoxious as the 180's. Which I totally forgot to bring anyway. *shrug* More for next time.

The guys enjoyed the 629 but a dozen of the Nosler 200's were quite enough for them. But the really fun part was watching this little slip of a girl who can't weigh more than 100lbs soaking wet, shoot the .44 with the lightest but still plenty healthy rounds. This was the first time she's ever shot any guns and what a selection she had. and she out shot me with the XTR, there I said it All in all, it was the kind of day that makes this sport so much fun.

4520 rounds now Fine, I might be a wee bit nutty but the missing chunks of skin should remind me of that for a week or so. 177 rounds of 21.5gr IMR4227, 50 of 23.5gr H-110. 47 more with 23.5gr W-296, all with S&B LP and Campro 240gr TMJ's. Then 50 of 30.5gr W-296 S&B LP and Sierra 180gr JHC's and finally, 50 with 30.7gr of H-110 under Hornady 180gr XTP's. (and they're still a PITA to use) for a total count of 374 .44 magnum rounds today. And 200 of medium hot 9mm reloads while the 629 was cooling down. Shooting is freakin' awesome!
