How long does a S&W 629 last? Let's find out! 13K+ now

16103 rounds

The madness continues, 2 sessions worth totalling 500 rounds using up the last open bottle of IMR4227 with some Vectan rounds and 50 spectacular rounds of 28.0 gr of H110 under Sierra 200gr JHCs today. Had 1 round that must of be way under charged because it sounded like a squib but still put a hole in the paper so no harm done other than a few moments concern.

16552 Rounds

Used up the last 199 (1 primer not seated deep enough requires rework) of the IMR4227 loaded rounds along with 100 H-110 rounds back in October and 100 Vectan rounds with 50 more H-110 today, As well as another 540 rounds of other stuff since it was take a new shooter to the range day. A good day all in all. Zero issues with the gun again, nothing loose, nothing going wrong, it worked flawlessly. The quest continues. Some of the Federal brass will now be loaded for the 30th time too,

I have to say, I'm impressed with your S&W 629 Classic and the workout it is getting!

That being said, have you made S&W aware of this thread? Your brand new S&W 29-10 survived less than 6000 rounds, yet look at your S&W 629 Classic rocking on after 16,500 rounds! Quite the difference if you ask me.

Cheers
Jay

Exactly, open a profile on S&W forum and post your all your results. Interesting what the Yanks will think.

I have a smith that had a worn out hand, sent to MD, sent back fully repaired under warranty- zero cost to me.

The kicker- the gun was from 1978, and this was last year. They even paid freight both ways.

Same experience I have had with the infrequent issues I have had on modern S&W's, excellent warranty.

Pick away at your bone..

I've experienced similar joyous moments with S&W (USA). A 4-5 year old steel Bodyguard M38 if I'm not mistaken, that I used 148 wadctters( same 2.8 gn. Bullseye load that i used in my 52-1 and -2 and the timing went off enough to start shaving lead. I called the boys just to discuss. A kind tech, who's name I don't recall, told me to "sind it on down We'll get it back to y'all good as new" and went on to say "Hope you weren't usin +P" and "Thar surely purdy little guns" I waited quite a while , but it showed up just the way he said. Even though I used cutters seated at the case mouth, I never had a problem after. I sold it here on the island to an acquaintance who still takes it around the block w/roundnose. Haven't had any experience with S&W canada and probably won't ever.

16702 Rounds

It's been a while but finally got out to the range today only 202 rounds today and the 150 from January and it just keeps going. Absolutely no issues except me. Now that school is out and a summer job is in the works hopefully I can afford to bang a bit more through this thing. Some of the Federal brass just got fired for the 30th time too. The 50 180gr Sierra JHC with 30.8 grains of H-110 were loaded back in June of 2016 so that Starline brass is almost brand new relatively.

What are you doing the rest of the week?? HA! Mine has been a range rental for 8 years since I wore it out!
To be gentle when I owned it I used 185 JHP and 12 grains Unique. Lit up the range LOL.

Probably the biggest insult to a genuine Classic Hunter one of 500 to have it falling off range tables, etc, but guess what in those days they were built, built to take whatever you could dish out. TODAY s&w doesn't even deserve upper case. So sad, but so true!

Knock on wood but never dropped either of them so far. As far as durability, well that's kind of the point of this whole thread. I was convinced this thing would fail and yet 16K+ rounds and aside from every screw coming loose, the grips shattering and the side cover cracking, it keeps on ticking. The timing is fine, operation is fine, accuracy is fine and only limited by me. Time to start collecting recipes for crow. Dammit!

30 GRAINS OF H110- Is this a typo?

I knew a shooter who swears his S&W .357 PPC revolver has almost 1M rnds, reloaded lead ammo. He is a firearms instructor, also with TPS. He actively participated in IDPA, PPC in regional and national levels including some down south. He only clean his revolver when the cylinder barely turns. The current condition of the revolver is primarily heavily blemished with carbon. He refuse to do a detailed cleaning as he is worried of a the pistol being a total wreck as he thinks the only thing keeping it together is the carbon deposits. He still use this same revolver every now and then.
