I wish Winchester would do a Model 70 Featherweight Compact in .358
I believe that would be a very nice rifle, indeed.

Hoyt........weren't you having a 77 RSI done out to a 358..........How did that turn out, got pics? That would make a good stable mate for my RSIs in 243 and 308.
This has become my fav my grab and go hunter - a Ruger77 Frontier in 358Win. Took it out west elk and deer hunting last fall. Very handy and it just suits me right down to the ground. I took off the quarter rib and use a compact 1.5-4 power Leupold over the receiver usually. It spits 250s at just over 2200 with its short 16" barrel. I also have a full size Ruger77 Hawkeye Stainless and a Savage "Brush Gun" - both in 358Win - both great hunting rifles also.

How much of an advantage does the 358 have over the 35 Rem?
With a full house of LVR under that 200gr and it's going over 2200fps. Still slower but getting a little better.
I have a new stainless 700 BDL action here (not SPS) and a new McMillan Edge that would be perfect for a project like this. Was thinking about selling/trading but this thread gets me thinking otherwise.
LOL ...... I think I used to own that rifle and sold it BACK to Ted after a time. Should have kept it.
While I don't own one right now, have owned 4 or 5 over the years. The best one was a M760 in 35Remington that was rechambered. The Model Seven mentioned above, a custom SS 700 and a couple BLRs. None currently as I have a 35Whelen instead.
SS.......is that 35 Win in a mod 95 I assume ? I too have one of these, easy to equal 358 Win ballistics, beautiful and useful old cartridge and doesn't have the restrictions of most 358 magazines.
That 350 RUM is a hellfire breathing dragon, buddy of mine used one for many years (35-404 Imp), biggest problem then was getting good enough bullets for it. 250 Speer HC were varmint bullets when used in that cartridge at 3200 fps.
On point, I have a 358 Win which I bought from Ted (Why Not?) made up on an old wood stocked Mod 7. However I have never shot any game with it and my #2 son has laid claim to it as his favorite rifle. I do have several 35 cal rifles and have used the 350 RM extensively for laying down black bears. As stated earlier it kills them all out of proportion to it's paper ballistics.........I used to sneer at guys using the 350 RM before I traded for one and started using it, I suspect the same applies to the 358 Win.
I picked up a used pistol grip BLR stainless in 358 with reloading package 3 weeks ago. Haven't shot it yet and I don't reload so shipped in 4 boxes of Hornady 200gr SP - the first bullet I pulled out of the factory box is headstamped 243 Win. I checked all other rounds and that is the only one stamped incorrectly. Anybody else ever see that? I have pics but have not learned to post yet since photobucket changed.
You should give reloading a try,.. I enjoy it myself, probably enjoy making ammo as much as I enjoy shooting it,...
