Just wondering how many, if any, C1A1 rifles made their way to Civilian hands? What happened to the majority of them? Sold off or are they washing machines and cans now? Thanks.

I knew a man, not sure if he is alive or dead now as it was the early 80's, he was a reg force capt in the artillery, and one year way before i met him, he was on exercise in borden ot petawawa, and he came across a FNC! that some one had left behind, and it had grown into a tree, the barrel, so he cut it out, took it to the Mps, they did a check on it, and it was not listed in the system etc. so he kept it. I saw it back in the early 80's and he had it registered than as he at the time had full auto. and he lived in orgneville ontario

I own a C1A1. It is a 12.5 status, and was an OPP gun made in 1968. It was a great shooter too. The last time I shot it was April 2005 before C-10A went into affect.

8L's were sold to the OPP. About 15-18 years ago, I remember one for sale at an Edmonton gun dealer, who was asking $10,000 for it. Those were the days!

'Garand' is correct the OPP bought , IIRC , 200 + - of the 8lima series Fnc1's , back in the old days (early 90's) you would find the odd one for sale in the 'gunrunner'

True storey. In the mid '70's I went to a Cadet camp that I won't name for a 6 week "Cadet Leader Instructor Training" (CLIT) camp.
In the middle of the night a truck pulled up with a load of FN C1's. They had no place to put them that late at night so they unloaded them onto the lawn and left. That night well over 100 rifles just sat there, in crates, begging to be loaded into my truck.
The next morning they were properly secured.

C1A1 = Awesome

I have to say of all the black rifles I have had the pleasure of launching lead with the CIA1 was the nicest. When you got the gas dialed it shot beautifully and it was accurate. It carried nicely and for the calibre was a fairly compact rifle.

I love what DSA has done with it and if our laws ever change (I can dream) I would be first in line for one.

there are quite a few L1A1 receivers with all canuck parts on them out there...

A pretty reasonable facsimile, dont you think?

Some even got the C2 warm and fuzzy goodness (top rifle)

At least with that one you could really reach out and "touch" someone :D

I remember the days when anything inside of 600 meters was as good as dead with a C1 - with open sights!

If you ever had to butt stroke someone with that rifle, it would be lights out. Not sure if the C7 would be quite as effective there. I don't want to start a flame war here, but an updated C1 would still be my ideal issue rifle.

I loved how the C2 bipod would explode open simply by brushing a tree branch in the pitch black of the night, that and the ever cool 'P.L.O' style mag bras:p
