How many deer did you see during this seasons hunt?

In total... 2 weeks with 13 guys each week I think we saw about 8 deer. We got 4. Mostly younger guys like myself that got them this year. My grandpa missed one, among a few other older members of our club.

Where I hunt when you see a deer it's always a good idea to just sit and watch it for awhile.I'm always amazed at how well a brown or grey coat can be such good camo. Many a time I've spotted a deer then while watching them there will acctually be 5 or 6 more standing right in the area.I beleive for ever deer I do see(hundreds in a season)that I've walked right on by five times as many.

Spent 2 weeks up in the queen charlotte islands last year, saw at least 10 deer a day (bucks, does & fawns), usually more. I got there right at the end of bucks only season, so none of the does or fawns were fair-game (who shoots does and fawns anyways?). The damn bucks were smart, they'd bail out as soon as they heard the car, so all I ever saw of them was a set of antlers looping off into the bush :( Bastards! I still got one though!

CWS raised the bag limit in the charlotte's last year to 15  during the "all" season at the end of august/early september. Bucks, does and fawns are all legal to hunt at that time. Personally, when I heard about it, I was kinda grossed out. What kind of guy would wanna shoot a fawn? I only had my .30-06 with me, so there wouldn't have been any point in shooting a fawn (there would be nothing left!), but still, I think it would have felt un-ethical to blast one. Anyone else? Thoughts?

Edit; my post isn't meant to be a hi-jack, it's sorta related (I think) :D

the best day we saw twenty three, the worst about a dozen or so. So maybe 100 or so. We did hunt the same areas more than one day and there must have been some overlap

well when i acctully made it out to hunt i saw 2 one doe and one spike buck in the back yard of a post property with a technicolor VW bug parked in the drive as i was driving up a back to where i had planned to go
but when i was at work without a gun saw 2-3 hundred throughout the season
what a piss off

Where in the sweet name of Jesus are y'all huntin? In the kawarthas, an hour north of Toronto (the "schity") I might see a dozen all season, but I still harvest one or two.

In this part of the country, I see mulies & whitetails that number in the hundreds before, during and after the season. Coming home from work yesterday for example, we counted 227 deer and 5 moose in 30 min. It's just the way it is around here...KF

i would.

i'd rather shoot a doe or a fawn than a spike buck.

I can't always get draws for a buck in the areas that I hunt, but doe tags are usually available. Like yourself, I have no problem shooting a doe to fill up my freezer with yummy jerky and sausage for the winter.

Fair 'nuf, spikers are kinda gross tasting anyways, chock full of ### hormones and all (at least, the ones I've eaten are gross).

As far as shooting fawns, I've just never shot one. When I took CORE, the guy that taught us was a hoary old bastard who would tangent off into a rant (didn't matter what the subject was) at the drop of a hat. When we got to the ethics part of the course there seemed to be more rants than usual, per day :p So that stuff got drilled into my head pretty hard (I was 14 at the time). The problem was, it was his opinion and interpretation of the ethics that he taught, which included "hunting fawns and does just isn't done". Therefore, it's just never entered into my mind to shoot one, even when it became legal.

On top of that, I've just always hunted for bucks, never bothered shooting does/fawns. They're so accustomed to people up in the charlottes that they don't even run away when they see the car, they just stand there and look at you. That's not hunting

How does fawn taste? Is it like lamb? If so, I might have to get over my deep-seated psychological hang-ups and bag one or two this season, I LOVE lamb :D
