November was my first Deer season, and on the fifth day I took my first buck. I can't begin to explain the sensation! You'd know what I mean if you have taken one of these animals, but if you haven't, you'll just have to wait to know the feeling.
He was only 2-3 years old, but well fed in Central Ontario so I got about 110 pounds of meat.
I took it at high noon, when it was out for a jog down a trail. We locked eyes at 25 yards and with a shot from my 30-30 Marlin 336 it was over.

Can't wait for next year.

Good question..I didnt know I was supposed to keep track :runaway:
Over 30 years.....gonna guess 12 moose, 40 deer, 12 caribou, and two black bears. Two deer were with a bow, one with a BP rifle, all the rest were rifle. And of course the one I remember the most.... one WT buck shot and not recovered.:(

but others will question your tracking abilities..

Like who?

There isn't a hunter alive that is perfect. Lost animals are a part of hunting, we all hope a very small part, but it does happen.

I know where you are coming from 270dave, one of the worst feelings in the world. Willing to chat about it shows your true integrity as a hunter.

Honestly, I don't keep track. I guessed. 40-60.
I've been lucky enough never to lose one of my own animals. I've been in on a number of other long term tracking jobs however, and some have ended not the way I'd prefer.
Do your best, and shoot straight, it's the best way. Tracking wounded game is no fun.

I read that post... it is just another case of you getting spanked verbally again.:slap:
Does it suck to be completely bereft of comprehension or are you blissfully unaware of your mental precincts.
I have many friends and relatives in Alberta and they all have a clue... you must be the anomaly.:onCrack:

I realize that I have once again drifted off topic to take another cheap shot. In my defence I must point out that I am responding to the brazen attack on Ontario and my fellow Hunters here.

One thing that I am noticing about this thread is that we all live in a country where we can head out into the bush and hunt, not only hunt but hunt in game rich areas.

Other than having to pay for a hunting licenses and tags we in most cases do not have to pay to access a hunting area.

I love this country that I was born free in and the freedoms I have...

Especially being here in BC... :dancingbanana: :shotgun: :dancingbanana: :shotgun: :dancingbanana:

Lets revisit... All of 108 posts, and you know what everyone here is capable of?

There may be a few...a very few that can pull off the long shots freehand but at last count 68 people said they were confident of hitting a deer @ 200 yards or more shooting freehand..key word...hitting a deer..not the vitals but hitting a deer.

How many of these deer were wounded and lost?

Being assumptive that others are as ####ty at shooting and tracking as you are...

Come on now be honest..think about it..

I still think a lot of you guys are bulls**ting or are slob hunters..
Really?

Yes 30 years ago I thought I was kings**t and I gut shot a trophy mulie buck @ a long range...short story,I tracked it till the tracks ran out on a shale slide.I wanted to puke..That day I swore that I would never pull the trigger unless I was sure of a kill.

Some years I had unused tags but that's ok.with me..

Once again, becuase your incapable of taking an offhand shot, and tracking the animal after the fact, you claim that there are very few capable of pulling off the shot freehand... (these are your words unedited) Once again, because your incapable doesnt mean others are not.

there is a difference between sharing for discussion like 270 dave did, and sharing to try to justify your opinion... and in this case, you were the problem, not the deer, the shaleslide, or anyone else claming they can take a 200 yard shot...

now here is what I wrote

See, the difference between you thinking your kings**t, and others claim to be capable of shooting beyone 200 yards is trigger time...
You assume its all BS, But like camp cook said, there are some that are being very conservative...
Because your incapable of hitting a pocket of air at 200 yards offhand doesnt mean others arent...
And had you had better tracking skills to boot, you likely wouldnt have lost that big mulie...
I see two issues with your justification... you couldnt track an animal when you were kings**t, and you couldnt shoot either... SO I understand why you wouldnt shoot farther...
Because you cant, doesnt mean others are in the same boat.

need I say more? Than you came back to me with "I've shot 44 big game so STFU" which is what started this whole thread we're on now...

see, the difference between you and I is I've never really had this problem

Yeah, I've lost 2 animals over the years, but I didnt claim others couldnt shoot because of it... I sucked it up, and learned from it, and made myself better... Practice is better than Imposing limitations based on my shortfalls...

You guys can take a break anytime now, I just finished closing one thread and now were gonna get it started in here? Or maybe if this one gets closed you'll just move over and start up again on another. You guys really gotta get out to the range or go polish your turkey decoys or something rather than run around here gettin into it.

I'm gettin f**kin sick of this s**t, you guys wanna flame and then flame some more and then when I gotta close a thread because it gets out of hand everybody wants to p.m. me and tell me that it was B.S., well screw that, want me to be a mod that sticks strictly to the rules with no leaway, I can do it. Mind you we won't have many threads to read because they'll all be locked due to some guys wanting to start a fight.

Everybody go outside and breath in the fresh spring air, I'm gonna do that right now, and when I come back in you'd better be more cheery!;) :D :D :D

DarrelDB,
There's not much use trying to educate that joker. He's never going to understand. The box a year group even think the ten box a year group are exaggerating. Neither can comprehend that to some shooters 200 boxes is merely a start. It's like trying to explain color to a blind man.;)

Poor poor computer is taking a beating lately!

Honestly though, I'd quit modding before I had to be an ignorant militant prick to you guys, I like to think I'm still one of the guys.

Is "Polishing your turkey decoy" a euphamism for something?:D

Because I did that this morning and honestly, it kinda tires me out!
