How many of you guys love your .303's?

.303!!! What a horrible inadequate, innaccurate, ugly, POS!!!! I never understood this lame duck of a round. Why it couldn't hit this side of a fridge inside 10 paces. Please please melt these things down for it's pennies worth of metal. Why you guys hang on to these relics of yester year I'll never know! April Fools!!!!:D

This is kind of off topic, but I figured that one of the milsurp gurus will know.

I've got 2 enfields, a no1mkIII*, and a no4,mk2 which are good as is. But an older guy at my club has a no4 and he needs a scope he thinks, but he doesnt want to spend money on drilling tapping, mounts etc on a bubbad enfield. So, is there any no drill scope mount for the enfield that is rated as a good buy? Or do they all crap out, and not hold a zero?
Don't know how good they are, Marstars sell a version, mounts over the charger bridge and screwed to the existing mount.

Even better, I have a real beater of a bubba P14, that has it's barrel, receiver, and bolt from different guns, and with only it's Iron sights it shoots darn good.

Even better then the #4 I have.

Try as I might I just can't part with this Ugly duckling in my safe.
Since I can't find full wood stocks anymore I guess I had better find a pretty synthetic stock for it. :D

Damn Brits!

I love the cartridge and I love the action, even though I'm a lefty.

Does anyone have a glowing recommendation or a review of a synthetic stock for a MkIII*? I've seen a few for sale but haven't heard much feedback on any particular one.

Yessir - I pretty well hunt exclusively with 303 for Ontario deer, even though I have Rugers and Tikka's. Between the PH No4, BSA P-14, and sported Ross, the deer fall down handily. For the average hunter, the No4 has all the features you need - slick action, DM, iron sights, and survivability.
I tried my Swede mauser on one hunt - got excited when I saw a nice buck, mis-cycled the bolt, missed opportunity. That wouldnt have happened with Mr 303!

Glad I got some of you going!:D

My dad has had a sporterized Lee Enfield for close to 50 years! It's a wonderful cartridge and rifle that is pleasant to shoot. He's taken moose, deer and caribou with it. Military ammo from some batches leaves much to be desired for accuracy, but hunting rounds from Winchester and some old CIL (Yes we still have some!) are accurate enough for hunting. The action is as slick as glass and can be worked really fast...but all you Enfield owners already know that!;)

All I can offer is that the ramline I bought was very soft an not rigid enough for the job in hand, yours if you want it for postage!
Before you reply check my address.:runaway:

.303 is a fine caliber

Love mine, I started hunting with my dad's old 303. It served me well, took about a dozen deer with it from 50ft to 600ft, no problems.

I don't use it anymore as I have too many other rifle but would not be under gun if I did.

I have a definate love for the 303 sporter, I like it as a hunting rifle too. I find it makes a particularly great moose gun with the slower ,large diameter 180gr bullet. Opens up quick and plenty of penetration. I compare it to a moose I shot thru the lungs with my 270, killed it but it ran a fair ways and it took 2 hours to find it.All the moose I have seen hit with a similiarly placed shot from a 303 never went more than 25 yards.
The old 303 can be prettied up quite nice too!

16 pages of '303". YUP us canuks like our 303s !i just found a parker hale conversion. cut down military wood , commerical barrel, 5 groove, 22 inch. just like i had as a kid. damn, i'm going to get it tommorow. i love being a canuk, with a 303 . anything else, is downwirght un-caniadian ! and like i said before the '"303" is still alive and well, with the northern rangers, which translates to the canadian government issuing #4 long branch 303s to the northern rangers, and i wouldn't want any of those boys shooting at me with their #4s. they would kill you !

I have a 1927 British 303, and I use it everyday. Moose, Caribou, Musk Ox, and even Buffalo aren't a problem. Iron Sights.

3 just came into the house. I'm not a big fan,but like many, shot my first deer with one. The 3 new to me will soon go to make room for others. ( the jungle carbine I used for my first deer will be hear long after most others are gone) AJ

This one of the nicer sporterized ones I've seen.

YOU BET I DO!!!!!!

The rifle was given to me by my Dad you got it from his uncle. I took my first of many deer with this rifle.
It was already sporterized so I changed out the stock for an ATI synthetic and added the scope.
