How many on here shoot a 7x57?

I presently have a Win M-70 pushfeed featherweight with a shilen 24" featherweight contour barrel--tight chambered and long throated--will nip on the heels of a 280 rem. It will be the last rifle I dispose of. I have had a couple of factory fwt's in 7x57 and a Rem 700 classic, a Ruger 77 and a N0 !, , a Brno and a couple military bolt actions.

In my view there is no better cartrige for deer/antelope sized game and I don't feel undergunned when going after moose.

Brno

BRNO configurations

21H - 23.5'' barrel, H stands for Half stock
21F - 23.5'' barrel, F stands for full stock

22H - 20.5'' bbl, half stock
22F - 20.5'' bbl, full stock

You have a 22H, not a ZG47!

So Joey, possible to explain the ZG47 vs 21,22's? Any pics? Know of any good book sources on these Brno's?
Cheers
Geoff

I believe the ZG47 is a large ring, also (typically) has one trigger and a safety on the right side of the bolt (kind of like the earliest Sako or Enfield). Accuratereloading has some good stuff on them, a poster (Alf) who is a displaced south african living in Prince Rupert (of all places) is extremely knowledgeable on Brnos.

I am Joey's Son, I actually posted accidentaly under his name.

What pat said is correct. The ZG is a large ring, with a safety much like the newer ZKK series. The stock is a little chunkier and better suited to using a scope, as is the non butterknife bolt handle. I don't know much about the dates of manufacture, but I do know I have seen 21/22's with ZG style safties and round reciver bridges....Pretty neat rifles. I had a 21H in 8x57 that was pretty much 100% condition...too pretty in fact. I sold it and got a 22H in 7x57, my favourite cartridge. Its the gun I grab when I head out into the bush!

Ok thanks for the info Pat and Slimbo. This is the first round receiver I've encountered. I've had a few square-bridge over the years. Guess my "quest" will now be to acquire a ZG47 example, Hey lookin's half the fun.Pat knows what I mean.

I have four 7x57's, well actually two: Brno 22F and Ruger #1A (and another #1A stainless steel coming in the mail) and two chambered for 7x57R, a Krieghoff Drilling and a Merkel BBF combination gun. I have shot only a few head of game so far with the cartridge, but like it!
A couple taken with the Merkel:

Why Winchester never produced the pre-64 fwt in 257 Roberts and 7X57

Don't intend to hi-jack the thread, but just as an aside, my uncle had a Winchester (not a Featherweight) in 257 Roberts. Wouldn't group worth a damn. He left it in the cupboard and went back to his old .303.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a Winchester 7 x 57...Am I back on the thread?

I have a Ruger No1 AB model in 7X57

Brno 21H 1949

Custom built 7X57, and over 20 more military firearms.

Here is a general list of military 7X57 rifles and carbines:
Three Brazilian 1908s, 1935, 1922, two 1895 carbines,
Two Spanish 1916s,
Remington Rolling Block,
Mexican Mod 1924 & 1936,
Two Chilian 1895s, & 1895 Calvary Carbine,
Steyr Model 1912,
Colombian 1912,
Venezuela 24/30.
These are just the ones I can name from memory. I think I have another three or four that I have missed.

Could this one be purchased?

Hi there. Search: Ed Matunis, he was/is a firearms tester and data writer. He stated away back that the Mod 70 in 257 Roberts was a bad match, for no understandable reason! They just didn't do well! (although, I think it was the feather weight).

I've been shooting my ruger tang safety m77 7x57 for around 11 years, since I bought it new. Shot my first dall sheep with it, wolverine and a wolf yesterday. Also several caribou. I have been loading it up recently with nosler 120 grn ballistic tips. Once I found the primer pockets were feeling a bit loose I backed off one grain and now I suspect it may shoot as flat as my old .270. (which I regret selling) I love this rifle and it will usually shoot into 1".

I don't own one (yet) but Jack O'Conner's wife seemed to like hers quite a lot as I recall.
She used it to down all kinds of African antelope and such didn't she?

I finally worked out a deal on the weekend for a Ruger #1 RSI in 7x57. While I was setting up the deal I purchased a Brno ZKK600 as well in the same caliber.

Another 7X57.

Well my No.1 RSI and Whitworth Mauser 7X57's posted in this thread last year have now gone on to other members. For this year I plan to take this Brno 22H 7X57 (bottom) for deer in the Okanagon before heading east to Alberta for deer/Elk. Those "long-range sits" for Elk, I'll take the F.N. .308NM (middle) and for anything bigger I have the Browning .375 H+H (top)

I finally get to answer yes to this thread !

After years of wanting, I just picked up a 7 x 57 in a Ruger #1 RSI from Clay. I put a Leopold VX II Ultralight 2 x 7.

I now need to decide on a load for it, I'LL mainly be still hunting whitetails.

Suggestions?????

Nice lineup!

heres my chilean 95 "bubba" with its last victim.
IMG_2435.jpg

my dad had this gun restocked by a local gunsmith. i know its a bubba, but its a real beauty to carry and shoot. I lent it to a buddy in deer season last year and had to practically pry it out of his hands.

I shoot mostly 175 grain bullets at slower speeds to keep the pressure down, as i've heard the 95s arent very strong.

I love 7x57 mauser, and im really torn between buying a new one, or getting a new 6.5 swede instead... i guess ill have to save up and buy BOTH!
