How many rounds ammo in your pack

I was reading a thread on another forum regarding packs/gear for sheep hunting, and one thing that caught my eye was the amount of ammo(actually lack of) that guys were packing in for a weeks hunt. Some were packing as little as 6 rounds. I've never been on a hunt where weight was that big of a concern, and I've been on lots of hunts where a shot was never fired, but I've always packed more ammo than that. Thinking back, I have always had about 20 rounds in camp, and usually more in truck. I have a slight tendency to overpack, better to have and not need than to need and not have, within reason.

So the question is, how many rounds do you take hunting, and what type/how long of a hunt?

From my experience....

Fill the gun.
Mag in your coat pocket or 3 in the pocket
Mag in your pack or 5 in your pack
Mag in your pants if you take your coat off regularly or 3 in your pant pocket

Should more than do you. Another box or two back in camp, just in case. For you, your friends or anyone else who forgot their ammo

Normal load out is 10-20 rounds in the mag / ammo wallet depending on what rifle I'm using and I carry that with me and 20 more in the truck

Depends. If it's a day hunt about 20. If I'm camping out 10 for the hunting rifle and like 80-100 for the camp gun.

Typically carry 20 rounds. Two plastic shell holders that came in the Federal ammo boxes a while back, fit really well in the little pocket on the fanny pack I use for my walking around gear. No rattle. No significant weight.

A bunch more in the vehicle, if traveling away from home. Had a couple seasons where due to slips and falls, and other circumstances, ended up spending a lot more time than I liked, doing sighting in and confirmation shooting, than actual hunting.

Usually a mag full on the rifle and either one spare mag or 5 or so rounds in the lid of the pack or bino harness.

I went "bear hunting" today. Walked about 10 kms. Why I put it in quotation marks is that I'm really not a serious bear hunter, I just like walking in the bush. One would have to be almost on top of me to get me to shoot it. That being said, I brought 12 rounds with me. Six in the rifle and six spares. Just a day trip 25 kms north of town. When I go for the week, I bring a few boxes just in case.

I brought 20 rounds on a 11 day fly in goat hunt. But on a 3 day mule deer hunt I may only take 5(full mag)

Two full mags, so 15 or 20 depending on if I grab a 5 and 10rd mags or two 10’s. If I’m away from home I throw an extra box in my bag.

Quite a bit of my hunting is with single shots but if I'm carrying a lever gun I usually only have 1 in the chamber and 1 or 2 in the mag -- I'm not gonna get 7-9 shots off so don't see the point in loading all those rounds.

I carry 12 on me. If I'm close to home, that's all I take. If I'm away, I keep a full box of 20 in camp in case something happens the rifle and I have to re-zero.

Upland grouse, 25 shells in an ammo belt, two shot sizes include 7.5 on the R side and 6 on the L, plus maybe 5 quick access shells loose on one coat pocket. It's what you call overkill.

Oh, and I'll also have some buck or slug shells around for the unlikely event of a large animal encounter that won't go away.

6-7 depending on the gun.

Usually fill two mags, one stays in my chest pocket, other in top pouch of my pack.

When going to a camp, I'll bring 20 rounds, as I have had to re-zero.
