How many rounds do you carry while hunting?

WE use signal shots as well for moose down or whatever. We also use radios that give us good range. The problem with signal shots is you have to make sure that you are not down low in a marsh or the sound might not carry. A moose was shot last year at the edge of a swamp with a 300WSM under 0.75 km from another stationary hunter and the shot was not heard. The radio did do it's job though.

3. I hunt with a shotgun in spots where a deer can jump into dense cover in a single bound or two. I would never have time for a follow up. But i have 3 in the gun incase of missfire or a jam or something like that. I got lucky on a turkey where the first shot missfired and i was able to rack a new one in and get him on my 2md attempt. He was busy mounting my hen decoy, he saw and heard me but was too distracted to stop lol

I leave the rest of the box back at the camp (which is only a couple hundred yards away)

Four in the rifle, six more in a folding belt pouch, and a box in my day pack. There will also be a second box in the truck or at camp.
On a back pack hunt, I will still have 30 in total.

in Aus, i tend to carry 3 in the rifle and always make sure i have about 5-10 in my bag for in case.
that incase is, for Dingoes / Wild dogs mostly.. as the drop bears dont give you a chance to fire

Drop bears - love it!

To answer the question: I carry 4 in the magazine of the rifle. It’s always good to have a few extra just in case.

Well, one in the chamber for sure..............only needed that one. I guess I should leave the other nine at home, never needed them anyway, after decades of big game hunting.

Full magazine and maybe 3-4 extra depending on the mag size

If I got lost while hunting and had to signal with my gun I would die every day at work

Funny to see guys who talk about rifle weight carrying a sidesaddle of 10 rounds like a Mexican pistolero

Two mags plus a sleeve of 10. So 16-20 total. Never needed more than a few even when the deer are travelling in packs and I've got multiple tags :). But better to have them and not need them than the other way around. Saw a pack of wolves once that was almost the number of rounds I was carrying. But they passed me by.

I take two boxes with me to camp . I carry in bush , w savage 2 mags of three plus ten in plastic sleeve . 94 , 3 in it , ten in a sleeve . 2A1 , 5 in it , ten in spare mag , ten in sleeve in pocket . 500 , 3 in it , ten or so in pocket

pretty easy to carry 2 ten round mags of 6.5 Grendel, really only dipped into the second mag on an unbelievable day of coyote calling where had about 15 come to the call over a full day, even still only barely dipped into mag 2, for big game one mag will do no sweat, mag is 3 oz, 6.5 oz for 10 rounds

I carry them all because I have never came across a bullet tree or bullet bush that had bullets I could pick and use in the field :)

You carry them all? You must not have much ammo stockpiled... You'd need at minimum a hand dolly to carry all of mine with you... and a forklift for some around here... lol

I carry a minimum of 8 cartridges while hunting close to camp or the truck in "civilized" country. If hunting in a remote wilderness area, 16-20. I wouldn't leave home with a rifle that has less than 15 cartridges available, I have used that many only rarely, but sometimes after a fall or a bump checking a rifle's sights is required.
