There is no such thing as too many tree stands!
On my main bow hunting property (we do not own the land, just have landowner permission) my partner and I have four permanent stands and generally hang one or two portables depending on what we are seeing.
At my hunt camp we have a half-dozen permanent stands and as we learn the place better, that number will increase. There are at least a dozen old stands from previous owners, which do provide a clue to where they used to hunt - although the land is now mostly flooded by the *$#(&#$@ beavers, so old deer trails are no longer used.
I like to have options for days when the wind is not from the prevailing direction, and that usually means at least four stands.
