Too much ammo is like too much ###...
If your car gets in the way of stockpiling more in the garage, swap it for more and use wifey's ride. Any good wife will understand.
What constitutes a reasonable amount of ammo, loaded and ready to go at home? That's Easy.
If you shoot IPSC or IPDA, and practice 2x per week with 300 round sessions, that is 600 rounds per week used. Simple math tells us to keep 3 times that amount on hand for when we take friends to the range, and double that when chronoing and doing load development.
By that logic, at least 2000 rounds ready to do is required, and double that on the shelf in case you have loading problems or a poor load, or simple want to load only a couple days a month.
So that should mean 5000 loaded RTF rounds.
Then again, if more company comes up, better increase that figure. Add 1000 rounds per houseguest!
Sound logic, but I have found that an increase of 3000 per houseguest is required, as they tend to invite friends to bbq parties, and those friends tend to want to shoot a round, like it, and fire between 500 and 1000 rounds in a sitting.
So I have ordered up :
5000 rounds .45
5000 rounds 9mm
20,000 .22LR
All stored legally at home to be used over time at the range.
Does this go beyond the definition of a "reasonable" amount of ammunition to be stored at home ?
