So, on another site, a guy is selling his FN49 in 8mm Mauser. It's in pretty good condition, but he doesn't know how much to sell it for.
Basically I wanna get a good deal, but without ripping him off too much.

They're nice rifles. Real collectors. They are worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for them.

I had one in 30-06 that I let go for just under $1000. Regret it to this day

The Egyptian 8mm have a flaw in the bolt system.
They don't have firing pin safety and will detonate commercial ammo out of battery with just the inertia of the firing pin.
The warning is in the Collector Grade Publication book on the FN 49.

Scary
I only used fed blue box 8mm never had that happen I knew about the 1 piece or 2 piece firing pin thing (mine had a 2 piece).
Mine had a really rough stock but the internals and barrel were mint and I sold her for 800 last year.

Yep, breech block has no spring pushing back on the firing pin, as mentioned it's free floating = boom out of battery. Happened to me with surplus Egyptian ammo....
The firing pin can become stuck forward in the breech block, so your rifle strips another round out of the mag and boom. Premature firing out of battery.

Give or take two years ago, I paid $1050 for a Belgian contract .30-06 FN49 that was in decent shape (shooter, not really collector quality) and came with one original stripper clip. If you really want this rifle, and it is in good condition, see if he will ship it to you for $900 flat.

Interesting info on the Egyptian Contract Fn49s. I've shot mine extensively (~2k rounds) with a #### ton of different makes of commerial ammo - PPU, Federal, S&B and Winchester - and never had this happen. Are all Egyptian Contract Fn49s afflicted by this ? If not, any way to check ?

Oh, and with regards to the OP's query: For a rifle in good condition would suggest a valuation of ~$1k. Most of the ones I have seen offered for sale over the past few years are either beat up from use and/or rusted from improper storage. The pristine ones do fetch a much higher price as do the Luxembourg ones in 30-06.

Don't forget the Century arms rebuilds in dark brown stained beech stocks and of course bore condition on the Egyptian rifles...

Where would the Venezuelan ones in 7x57 rate cost-wise?
(good condition with crest on stock still clear?)

I have an Egyptian FN-49,just make sure it has a 2 piece firing pin,and your good to go.I had a slam fire, using the stock 1 piece firing pin.Just food for thought, plus most of the Egyptian rifles didn't come equipped with the firing pin safety stop anyways.
