How much does it cost you to go hunting for a day?

how many people here bought a vehicle ONLY for hunting? hunting in no way factors into my vehicle choice and is therefor not a hunting expense. gas burnt is though.

guns by and large are not even a hunting expense, shooting is a seperate hobby.

food and drink are not a hunting expense either as you would need to eat and drink anyways.

what i consider to be hunting expenses:
$800 rifle
$300 scope
$2200 binoculars
$1800 spotting scope
$50 jacket

$150/year in licences
$200 fuel / year

all this equals a little over $10,000 over the last 15 years. subtract the value of the meat that i have gained say conservatively 3000lbs x $2.50 after butchering =$7500

so i am out $2500/15 = $167/year some years i have gotten out 4 days and other years 40. even if i round up to $200/year to take care of incidentals that is pretty cheap.

so i have gotten fresh air and exercise and good times for essentially the price of a night out.

now shooting is probably a $1500/year hobby.

Notwithstanding guns, licenses, equipment, clothing, etc. ( and no special vehicles like trucks, quads, etc. ) ... as little as a buck or two for shells for grouse, woodcock and occasionally a few bucks more for non-toxic loads for ducks and geese by walking out the back door, to maybe as much as $ 50 or more /per bird for a 14-day trip to Cuba for ducks, doves, snipe & quail.

Drift boat fly-fishing in BC was probably in the vicinity of $ 500 per steelhead, while trout on the Bow, Crowsnest & Oldman were considerably less, but still a lot more than bass and pansfish here at home. Costa Rican sailfish are likely pretty pricey too ... just as are cape buffalo, kudu or Asian high country sheep.

Gues it all depends what "snack bracket" you're comfortable with ! ;)

One guy's annual east-coast Atlantic Salmon foray is about 25 times or so more expensive than my regular week at deer camp.

Anywhere from $100 and to $1000's..I really wouldn't want to add it up..:)
#### gopher hunts can be one of the most expensive.. cost $500-$1000 a day..depending on how much alcohol a guy drinks at night.:D

They don't make them like they used to 200kms or less seem to be the limit on boots .... I'm still looking for a decent brand/pair .... the Irish Setters crapped out early in the year & I had to go back to the Meindls which were already sucking dirty pond water. As they say it's not the age, it's the miles.

A nickel a trip? Math. What do you have, how far do you walk, how long do they last? I'll buy em if they can stand up to 20km treks/hunt for more than a year & are lite enough for the extra long hikes.

You sir need a real pair of boots. Zamberlan, Scarpa, La Sportiva pick one.

My wife is an accountant and our moose hunts used to work out at about $4.00 per pound , but who's counting. It's what it's worth to us to be out there.

deer hunting I dont start truck walk to back of lot sit shoot deer when I see the one i want. However I took a week off work 1500$ dollars worth

For me it could range from next to nothing, just walking out of my dads place and poping a whitetail, to easily $250 plus a day. If you really worked it out 75% of the use on my $13,000 quad is for hunting, I have spent at least $10,000 on hunting rifles in the last 7 years. Bought a new bow, 2 doz arrows, a few broadheads... $1300. Likely another $1500 in clothing and boots, and a good $2500 in bino's and spotter. Say $29,000 in hunting equipment since I am sure I hvae forgotten something.

I put away a little cash from each payceck and usually spend roughly $2000 a year in fuel, tags, misc gear etc.. So I hunt till the money is gone, and I usually get out say 10 days and 5-6 evenings.

$40 gas, $4.57 Tim Hortons (XL double double, sausage Breakfast sandwich on English muffin & hash brown). $9.14 if HUNTSMAN decides to tag along. Don't ponder the economics to deeply, or you will realize that deer tenderloin can easily cost you $300/lb if you include all the math!

Hunt camp $ 52 000
Hunt truck $10 000
Upland dog ( german wirehaired pointer ) $600
Water dog ( Lab ) $500
Jon Boat with trailer and 30 hp outboard $7000
Beretta extrema $1600

What we are going for deer ?

Reloading press $200
Browning A-Bolt with Bushnell elite 3200 and talley base and rings..$1400
Sog Saw and knife combo $30

what the hell ..whatever it all adds up to IT IS WELL WORTH IT>

Snow goose hunting - 2 hours of driving for scouting, half hour drive in the morning to get to the field, if it's a close one. Two hours of the generator running while we set up 600-700 decoys. An over priced SBE 2 eating 3 boxes of 3" non-tox shells. A comfy layout blind. A lab that eats too much. Warm clothes, snacks, drinks and so much fun that I hope nobody adds this up or sends it to my wife!

well round trip is $75 just for fuel that does not include the quad, more when towing the hunt camp trailer.

I normally go the better part of 2 weeks in november so add 3x 30lb propane bottles for heating and cooking

tags thats a bunch more $$

and everything else

but its worth every penny

unless i head up north for a few days, normal day huntin costs me about $45 gas round trip, got rid of the jeep so hopefully a bit cheaper this year
