how many people here bought a vehicle ONLY for hunting? hunting in no way factors into my vehicle choice and is therefor not a hunting expense. gas burnt is though.
guns by and large are not even a hunting expense, shooting is a seperate hobby.
food and drink are not a hunting expense either as you would need to eat and drink anyways.
what i consider to be hunting expenses:
$800 rifle
$300 scope
$2200 binoculars
$1800 spotting scope
$50 jacket
$150/year in licences
$200 fuel / year
all this equals a little over $10,000 over the last 15 years. subtract the value of the meat that i have gained say conservatively 3000lbs x $2.50 after butchering =$7500
so i am out $2500/15 = $167/year some years i have gotten out 4 days and other years 40. even if i round up to $200/year to take care of incidentals that is pretty cheap.
so i have gotten fresh air and exercise and good times for essentially the price of a night out.
now shooting is probably a $1500/year hobby.
