How much hunter orange does one need to hunt deer in ontario during the shotgun season.....I have not hunted deer with a shotgun for sometime now, someone has told me my old hunter orange camo (orange with black spots) jacket is not longer legal. They say the jacket must be complete hunter orange. Is this correct?

I think it's 400 square inches unbroken. The unbroken part means no camo. Also have to wear a blaze hat.

Yes thanks, I just found it on the Ministry website, 400 inches solid no camo, looks like I have to buy myself a new solid hunter orange jacket......not even thoughs construction vest comply any more...

Not exactly sure if the camo hunting florescent jacket is legal anymore, but a full florescent orange vest is, with a flo orange toque or ball cap.

The camo jacket you describe may, or may not, meet the minimum square inches of orange required.

The jacket is still good, just wear a orange vest over it.

Your liberal overlords even tell you what to WEAR!? Ay carumba! Just when you think it CAN'T get any worse... Why!? WHY GOD WHY!? Do they also tell you how many times you have to wipe after you go #2? Can't be too careful ya' know; hepatitis and all! SAFETY FIRST!

Wear as much as you can. Any mesh, open weaves or blaze camo are not legal (ie traffic vests and the like). You can get away with a cheap vest from Wally World, but your personal safety is worth more than the bare minmum coverage, IMO.

You guys out west might think were nuts abiding by it, but there will be a lot of wing nuts with guns in the bush for the next few weeks. Better safe than sorry. My life is worth more than a few pounds of vennison in the freezer. My wife and kids also agree.

You can get skimpy blaze orange flagger vests that aren't mesh, and that's all you need. Personally I would buy a nice fleece vest and wear it over your camo jacket. That way, you have a vest to wear grousing on a nice day during big game season (no blaze needed outside firearm big game seasons in ON I think)

So with 400 Sq. inches of blaze orange, and an orange hat, you guys must have absolutley no hunting accidents.

And gee whiz I wonder, (rather out loud) how does it compare to Alberta, where the law makers deemed clothing requirements an infringement on your rights.;)

Based on some of the hunters I've come across in public forests, I now dress in FULL head to TOE orange (Hat, Gloves, Full jacket, Full pants.. everything. Well except the boots..)

Some of those guys out there are scary

I still use my orange camo jacket a lot (it's really bright and wasn't cheep either...), but I put an orange vest over it.
I think it's a shame that these orange camo jackets are considered "not safe". :runaway:
Good thing we don't have to hire a marching band for walking in the bush and fire warning shots in the air before aiming.
Who knows what else is coming...

Heh, just wait! I hear next year they are requiring firearms safety logos to be printed on the orange vests. The good news is that you can get an iron-on safety logo for free, to go on your existing vest, so long as you also agree to have a corporate sponsorship logo in the safety ad (guess who is paying for the freebie logos? Thanks CHEER!). I guess they feel that when one is in the woods, they should be reminded to be safe right after they almost shoot an orange deer. It makes sense if you think about it!

Thank God I live in Alberta. I can, and HAVE, shot moose, wearing Dockers, a button down shirt and dress shoes on my way home from work. The clothing didn't survive the field dressing though.

Whereas I dress in FULL CAMO -- to hide from the ####ers.

Every time this subject comes up, you just gotta know that a dumbass, stupid post like the above post is going to come up as well.If you can't say something constructive why don't you STFU.

Is it a dumba*s comment? Or is the situation so dumba*s that when the critical, underlying theme gets exposed to the light of day, that it just seems "dumba*s," because Canada (in this regard, and on this topic) is so used to living there, in the dumba*s, as it were? Does not a dumba*s usually reject poignant though as dumba*s in it's own right? A propensity to cling to familiarity is all too human a trait, and yet should that familiarity be, as you put it, dumba*s. Then, is not the uncomfortable truth--stood and delivered, fearlessly, and without selfishness--the light, and the way to rectification; "dumba*s-ness be d*mned by contextual circumstance? So I say to you, sir; Is it more constructive to talk about fact that the Titanic sinking, sparing true panic once the veil comes down; Or should it be more constructive to rearrange it's deck chairs, as to not frighten the women and children? Yet the issue of doom persists regardless; does it not? Constructive? Yes indeed, and in a REAL way! You see; constructive is, as constructive does, good sir!

I'm glad I don't have to ask my wife if I can go to the bathroom anymore, or wear 400sq. in. of orange while hunting for that matter. Are there any regs. on what shade of orange, btw?

Hey, why not attack another hunting group, honestly guys back off.

Yes, you need solid orange and an orange hat, if you have ever hunted in the eastern Ontario woods with dogs and a bunch of guys in the bush you will know why it is manditory.

Go out, have fun, shoot a deer, in that beautiful orange glow.
