How much interest in a Canadian limited edition Ruger No.1?

I've always wanted a RUger #1, too...just never enough to buy one chambered in most cartridges (especially rimless cartridges) because I'd prefer it in a bolt action. All the rimless cartridges from .22 Hornet to .585 Nyati- I'd rather have in a bolt action...

However, I do like the .303 British cartridge, and, short of spending some good $$$ on a bolt action complete custom job, it's really only available in the big and heavy Enfield rifles or the SMLE.

So the rimmed .303 makes perfect sense in the #1, it's a great cartridge, it's got lots of Canadian history, and I know I will take it out to hunt blacktails on nice days, and I expect many will use it for all sorts of other beasts across Canada.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to buy into this, I don't really care what others feel are the best choice for themselves, but for me, this is the first time i've said "RUger #1 is the RIGHT choice"
:)

So with 600 plus replies to this thread, i am assuming the interest is very limited, and not worth the risk.:p

To awnser the OP, i think the idea is great, but i wouldn't likely buy one. I am more of a shooter than a collector, and would likely buy a standard no 1 to avoid the hassle.

Like i said though, cool idea, and i think the 303 is the necessary choice.

 You like the 303? Even with it's 375H&Hish taper? Say it isn't so!

:p

Always liked the .303...The problem with it is that it has rarely been available in hunting rifles that would complement it.

Most of the cartridges I use have been around before I was born, some a looong time before I was born.

I don't mind tapered cartridges, but they are unnecessary in this day and age in bolt action rifles. As a rimmed cartridge, the .303 is a perfect match for the #1

While it won't hurt to call or contact Ruger and 'push' for the 303 Brit, you will likely get the generic answer of 'nothing is planned'. Don't read anything into it as you won't be talking to the people that actually are working on this project. On our side of it, we have the right people talking with Ruger. The key person is the Lipseys rep that is responsible for all their special orders. Trust me, he's not just working with the girls that answer the phones at Ruger ;)
Lipseys is one of Ruger's key disributors and, if anybody can get this through, its them. The reps are very excited about the order and are working at it. So they should be for what I hope is a 303 rifle order.

I hope my sarcasm was evident...

I can guarantee you that if everyone who spent their time on this thread had sent their enthusiastic responses to Ruger, we would have a firm commitment from that company.

Go to : http://www.ruger.com/footer/contact.html#

Then click on "Submit online Request" and send in your thoughts.

BTW....I've sent in mine.

I have submitted my request to Ruger for a #1 in 303 British.

Thanks for the link !!! Bring on the "Canadian" !!!!

Arch:)

Since when is this called "bugging"??? [/QUOTE said:
which do you think ruger is going to take more seriously: a handful of people who phone or email to say they know what ruger "should" do, or a distributor that is a consistent and reputable mover of their products (as well as the end supplier of quite a few exclusive runs)?
i never claimed to be an expert, and i don't know you, but i would bet everything on this: you ain't no lipsey's. (maybe the prez of wss, in that case, you an me needs to have words)

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, fart, burp.

OK, talked with the Lipsey's rep again today(the one who orders all their special runs) Bad news is that he's having trouble tracking Ruger reps down as this is 'show' season and they are on the road a lot. Good news is though that he's quite confident that we will get our Rugers in 303 with a .311" barrel. The big issue seems to be whether we will get them as a 'run' or if Ruger will 'put them on the line'. Hopefully, we get the run as they will be made, moreless, all at once. If not, it could be painfully slow getting into inventory and no special serials.

;)I wonder if Ruger even had a second thought about a .303 before this happened?:D This is the biggest non-American cartridge out there...
Before anybody jumps on me; I'll clarify. They had the 30-06 Springfield & 30-40 Krag that filled the same hunting & shooting heritage & needs, that the 303 did in most other places in the world. I hope that we can get a limited run & if they want a regular run after that, so be it....
