How much is a Colt 1892 in .41 LC

In good shape... Ima go with 3300-3500 $ They are still a weak arse engineered pistol...but the '89's seem to command 2500-2700.
Everyone seems to think the 92 rectified the failings of the 89... telling you they are not much better. They just sort of cobbled on locking systems, 2 of which actively fight each other and the 3rd is substandard.
I get a time machine, going back to talk to the guy's who built these units. Ask them "What in the H*ll were you thinking?"
But the market is what it is.
Someone will be along to tell you they 'Lock up like a Bank Vault'
Ask what bank they use..then don't go there...ever...

I'm not sure that there are any.. there might be a rare 38 Special. 38/44 is a really cool option... Smith and Wesson brought them out in a single action break open. They look like a very cool gun. There's a 32 /44 on the EE at the moment...Dez has nice iron IIRC.
41 LC is great cartridge. Well...1 of the 3 ( that ICR) is a decent revolver.
Sure to offend someone but the 1877 and the 89/92 thing...not the best revolvers.
A New Service is a nice pistol. And the SAA...well what can you say?
Never handled an old S & W, bit I've read that they have a clockwork mechanism. I like well engineered things.
Belgian revolvers are like trashy women...still fun, but you don't tell your friends LoL

I have had Close to 50 of them (10 or so years ago) I was REALLY into them, Kinda wish i saved a few of them due to what they are selling for today!
I really liked them due to the fact that they where easy to work on and i have LOTS of New Spare parts to fix them up!

I was Installing new 38 Spl Barrels , And Cylinders from the later models, Long Story on why i stopped... But Lets just say.. 20+ Cops 2AM Raid kind made me stop.
But nothing was taken / Not charges becuse everything was legal But was still a lot to deal with.
And gun smith that helped me passed away , so kinda made it hard to keep going.

if you search Colt 1892 38spl you will see a lot of my older videos that SUCKED on youtube.

Wish i never sold this one!

I had the RCMP Aprovel before the barrel swaps are done , antique letters. AND Full Email Details of what was being done.
The main thing is... Right now you need to start off with a 41 Colt , At the start we could use 38 colt and swap the barrel and upgrade to a newer cylinder.
And swap the gun from restricted to antique
But now "has to be 41" to start to get antique letter , but i have been out of it for like 10 years LOL!

Hi TokGuy and Starpuss,

Thanks for the replies!

TokGuy, I had an SAA, sold it for a car lol
A classic car tho.

Starpuss, any chance you know how much one of yours from back then would sell now converted?

Cheers!

Hi TokGuy,

Thanks for the reply.

What prescribed antiques are there that can chamber .38 special from the get go or through modification?

Thanks again :)

38 Special from the get go? None. 38 Special didn't exist before 1898. Changed to 38 Special is OK if originally the gun wasn't one of the calibers that disqualifies it from being an antique.

Cheers
Moe

IF i was to do another one , I would not sell it for less then $4,000-$5,500

The one for $11,000 for the one on ####### I think is WAY out of line for the price.
It looks like my work kinda...i would normally use the 1896-1897 frames.
But at the same time i dont remeber doing ANY that had a frame that pitted up.
But.. Who knows.. I Lost ALL my Records and pic's from back then other then whats on youtube.
I would sell them all with Email Records from the RCMP showing the approved modification.

Back 10 years ago i beleave i was getting $3500-4500 Each when done.

Seems like the non Antique ones are $750-1500 Cad right now.

The problem right now... is finding and Antique 41 Colt... Seems like they are going for $3,000-4,000 Right now..
And i bet still 95% of them will need work even IF the buyer tells you it's good... ...
The good thing is , Even if they are a "little loose" they are normaly pretty safe to shoot.

then looking for a little newer model for the cylinder I use to buy 38 cylinders or 32-20 from 1903-1907
Normally the cylinder was $100-250 Each. i also did a good amount of cylinder sleeves in pre 1897 41 cylinders.

The Barrels i would find from $75-300 Each depending on the size & shape
I use to buy them local from a gunsmith , who had a LOT of them
As he was rebarrling most of the guns to longer leanth so they did not need to be prohibited so had LOTS of stock.

The engraving was normally $20-50.00 only Local company who did trophies i would bring "just the barrel too"

the problem is... 95% of the colt 1892's Needed a GOOD amount of work.
I brought TONS (30LBS) of NOS parts from uruguay 10+ years ago , so was pretty simple to fit parts to them.
But did take a good amount of time.. I was Changing EVERYHING inside the gun to new.

Barrels are Very Easy to Swap and Fit, I did maybe 5 myself (making my own barrel and frame vice bocks)
And a $600.00 mini metal lathe
after working with the gunsmith who showed me everything.
Hardest part was the sight lineup LOL!

Really
I Recomend... Just Buy a 41 & reload for 41 Colt , or a few places in canada who will sell reloaded 41 colt.
41 Colt is a pretty gun Cal to shoot.

Back in the day the parts i use to keep instock. Well this is when i was selling off the last of everything. (i dont have anymore parts)

In the last Few Years i started to get back into antiques again.. After pretty much being out of it for 10 years.
Slowly building a shop that i can play with working on them again.
but only really playing with reichsrevolver M83 right now (I have "just a few of them" LOL)
they are the The Ugly guns no one really wants , and they like 44 russian Ammo, and cheap still (normally under $2500 In good shape)
Working with a local Person to do a Run of reproduction parts for them.. But... Kinda looking like it will be too much $$$
And problems is... So Many diffreent fiment issues on them seeing they where made in many places...
Kinda making some "Call of Duty Models" for fun LOL..

I just picked up my Thunderer 41LC for $2000, all the nickel is flaked off to a grey patina, structurally sound but mechanically needing work, needs a sear spring and a cylinder stop but the seller is helping me out and he turned out to be a good guy about it in the end.

Certainly don’t expect to find anything DA less than 2k, SAA seem to hover 5-7k right now.
