How much is it costing you to load .223?

For me its roughly 3.5 cents for primer. 6-7 cents for powder and I bought 9000 Lake City 55gr bullets at a swap meet for 80.00. So I would say under 10 cents a round. Yes I know, I stole the bullets:) I have tons of brass so no cost there.

pretty good deal, projectiles are the heaviest cost of reloading, I buy Lake City and I think they are about 16 cents a piece.

1,000 bullets uses between a 1/3 to a 1/2 a can of powder so lets say $20 worth.

Your math doesn't add up... a pound of powder will do 250 -300 rounds depending on powder and load... 1000 bullets will require 3 to 4 pounds of powder NOT 1/3 - 1/2 a pound.

Just bought some Privi 55gr at $140 for 1,000, primers for $29, tax for those 2 is $20. 1,000 bullets uses between a 1/3 to a 1/2 a can of powder so lets say $20 worth.

Approx $210 to reload 1,000 rds

Canaams deal is $357.28 with tax and he does free shipping. So it boils down to time you have and whether you have a free brass supply, which I do. I am happy to promote his deals and might pick up a crate for the hell of it for when I don't have time.

Average load for .223 approx 26 grains of powder, 7000 grains per pound gives approximately 270 rounds per pound. Are you using 3.5 grains of powder per cartridge? What powder is that? I'd like to switch if you can still get 3000 fps.

Why are you quoting me??? I know how far a pound of powder goes... I was quoting Colin... who clearly doesn't know how many rounds to a pound...

Who's got primers for $35/1000 maybe old stock you bought years ago

with current prices $40-45/1000 for primers plus tax

powder $35 and upward to $39 +tax

a pound of powder = 300 primers for small rifle

for 308/3030/3006 etc
1 lb= 100 primers
so 1 lb powder $ 38
projectiles $30-40
primers $4.50
= 82.50/100
=16.50 box
=.82c each for plinker rounds more for something Special

Not sure why you are throwing in your cost for .308 when this thread is about .223; your cost for .308 is much higher for projectiles, your primer price seems a little high, and you are paying about $10 more per pound than I did 2 weeks ago.
3lbs of powder was $80 (all in), 100 Hornady FMJ was $18? and 1000 primers was $33 bullets and primer cost was before tax.
my loads work out to be .30 cents per round, or $6.08 per box or $304 per 1000.
your cost of $.82 is $820 per 1000 for plinkers... ouch
* the hidden cost is the time spent prepping the brass, which on 1000 rounds takes a bit of time that I would much rather be doing something else!

Your prices are in the crack-o-sphere.

I buy CCI SRP's for $36.00/1,000
I buy FGMM LRP's for $42.95/1,000
I have bought some more Varget recently for 30.00/lb.
175gr Sierra Matchking $217.00/500 or $0.435 each.
My .308 load costs me $0.66 for match grade ammo not including brass.

I'm at about 36 cents per round including brass that I purchased and assuming I re-use brass 7 times for AR / plinkers. A little more for my target 223 loads depending on the bullet (usually Hdy Match).

Don't know where you're buying your components, but you are getting soaked...

PRIMERS = $35/K ALL IN
VARGET = $32/LB. ALL IN
HORNADY 165 SST = $34/100 ALL IN

PRICES FROM YESTERDAY...

As for .223 projectiles... I bought 15 boxes of 55 ZM (500/box) for $55/box... I will be shooting these for awhile... which is why my .223 cost is only 24 cents/round.
