Yeah, good advice here. I too hate rust, but it's really easy to go overboard and do more abrasive damage to the remaining finish, while trying to remove a few select spots on the outside.
It is probably even more common for shooters to go overboard on lubing the action, because of the "fear" of unseen rust that could ruin their gun... All of that lube attracts and holds dust and dirt, creating a gummy build up leading to mechanical failure and excessive wear... You want your action to have a "thin" film of protection but run it as dry as possible... And avoid WD-40... Please.
