For other uses, see Venison (disambiguation).

Venison is the meat of a deer.[1] Venison can be used to refer to any part of the deer, so long as it can be consumed, including the flesh and internal organs. Venison, much like beef, is categorized into specific cuts, including roast, sirloin, and ribs.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary, in use since 1828 is hardly obscure and has been in existence a little longer than Google.

I didn't post to get into a pissing match over who's got a bigger diktionary.

I've been around longer than google too, and in my world venison is deer.

For 50+ years venison has been synonymous with deer meat with everyone I have known.

Now I understand that while I grew up eating wild meat surrounded on all sides by avid hunters, (and my Mom and Aunts and Uncles were raised on it at the farm) not everyone was.

While my reply wasn't directed specifically at your post, I expect the English language and usage has changed a bit since 1828.

Call everything venison for all I care, just don't be surprised when nobody at the local hotel knows wtf yer talking about. :)

My wife and I humbly consume what the good LORD allows us.
A nice buck feeds us for a year.
Sadly last season they were few and far between.
Thus we harvested nothing. After more than 40 days attempts, many, many hours in the bush and blinds..
First skunk since 1997.
