how popular is the 92fs?

Rollie I think your blue gun does a fantastic job so im not too sure how much more you would benefit from the real deal, unless your blue gun changes shape after awhile but I think the cz crowd would be a better buisness move. Everytime im at my gun store somebody is buying or fondeling a cz.

I don't understand the Girsan thing, for the extra 100$ or so I would MUCH rather have the real gun from Beretta then some Turkish factory.. but that's just me. Some people like to save every penny no matter what.

well I did my home workfor the last few weeks , I was the same way but when I looked up the specs the Girsan is way better made like for example look at the gide rod in the Beretta its plastic that's cheap where the Girsan its mettle just a better made gun for not 100 bucks cheaper try 200 to 300 bucks cheaper .

I just showed a used 92fs for 580$, he would take 550$ for sure.. that is far from 300$ more. I have to admit I don't know much about the Girsan, but I would still rather have the real thing even if it was 200$ more as in the long run that is pennies to have a reliable quality gun.

Used is the key word. And the Girsan is made in a former beretta factory by former beretta employees on beretta machinery....it is almost exactly the same, but better. It has better machining, has machined finger grooves, and had its tolerences tweaked by two former HK engineers...and it is also put through the same nato approved testing HK uses. I have both and have stripped them both down and was surprised at the overall exceedingly high quality of the Girsan. So, lets recap for mattf87...the Girsan is a better version of the Beretta 92 almost completely across the board. Add in the fact that a Girsan is $250 cheaper new, and it is the hands down winner. If you are a brand snob and your pistol has to say "Beretta" on it, yay for you....some of us dont care if its the original or not, especially if its BETTER than the original. Take a serious look at them before you cast your negative comments.

If it was Beretta vs Taurus which retail very close to the same price yeah....go Beretta. But $450 vs $700 is a decent chunk of change when comapring Girsan to Beretta.
Plus Beretta doesn't even make a compact version anymore even if you wanted one.

I bought one as my first handgun and have no regrets and I will never give it up. When I was first looking I went to the local range and shot it against Glocks and a couple others and the Beretta felt and shot the best for me. Its all personal and there will always be fanboys of different manufacturers out there.

I already said I don't have experience with the Girsan and didn't say anything negative about it. I just said for the price difference I would buy the original. All the Girsan's I can find are 499$ new and the compacts are 570$. So to me you are saving 50-100$ because I have no problem buying a used gun in good condition, so I am willing to look at the Beretta's for sale at 550-600$. The Beretta has been proven also by years and years of military and police use for much longer then the Girsan. I never said the Girsan wasn't a good gun, and I know it is a well made gun. I just said personally I would rather have the real one compared to a Turkish knock off even if it cost me a little bit more, but that's just my opinion. Call it a bit of a brand snob, because I believe in most cases you get what you pay for and I will go with a trusted brand that has been doing it for ever over a Turkish company started in '94. Who is to say that in 10 years Girsan will even be around when you have a problem? The Girsan is a great gun for someone who wants to get a good gun, doesn't care about the brand, and looking to save a few bucks.

I owned one of these, my first pistol, one of the many guns I regret selling.

My Turk gun has been more reliable, it's fired everything I stuffed into it. The Beretta was pretty unreliable at first till it smoothed out.
Just for comparison here's the Turk clone, (stock photo, not mine).

Sorry if this feels like a hijack, it's a clone, I think it counts as a 92 FS. I think the Taurus PT 92/99 rates inclusion too.

Here's an early one, 92 D according to the source (.berettacollection.com).

I'd love one of each, but I'm a fan of Smith & Wesson.
659, this is without a doubt my favorite pistol to date.

Yeah, the Girsan looks like a really quality gun and probably a great buy. Interesting, I didn't know S&W made one like that. Learn something new every day.

I saw a Girsan 92FS clone at Target Sports a couple of weeks ago.

The guys at Target told me they used one as a rental for a few weeks, so it went through hundreds and hundreds of rounds a day. Apparently it didn't hold up well and they stopped using it.

By the way, count me as a 92FS fan. I like the metal, I like the look overall, I like the feel in my hands, and I do not have big hands.

Easy to clean, never jams except with MFS bullets. The weakest part of the gun is the mags. When you do mag changes and drop them on hard ground they have a habit of coming apart, spring flying around, etc. That's a pain.

Beretta 92. I would say it's either love or hate relation that You'll develop with that pistol.
It's extremely reliable, fairly accurate and durable handgun.
Sights are fixed and You can't replace the front post without cutting the slide. Also Inox has red dot sights that are absolutely terrible for anything else than perfect light condition.
Stock trigger sucks - You need to install the so called D spring that should make it a bit smoother, but don't expect anything really nice. It's going to be just OK (first hint about the lack of popularity).
Grip...well, it's big and fat (second hint about the lack of popularity). Pistol is heavy and for any application that is connected with carrying the gun, there are many, better choices out there (third hint about the lack of popularity). Lot of people switching for 92 have a hard time to see any accuracy on target - size, trigger - it takes time to see the results, but it can be accomplished.
It's not as good looking pistol as many people are saying...well at least in my opinion. Just turn that thing around a few times.
Look at the pictures posted on the internet - they all are usually taken under very specific angle - from any other perspective it's one, ugly pistol.
Newer versions offer sights that can be easily replaced and internal buffer that should make this pistol more durable.
However no new grip was offered and Beretta switched to plastic with the new pistol that implements the rotating barrel system (PX4).
Model 92 is a thing of the past, even though it's still used by many around the World.

I just bought the Girsan full compact bright white , I love the finnish on it when the guy opend the case for me and handed the gun my hands where in such comfort I love the handle it just fits my hand perfectly , and yesterday I got to hold the 92fs inox and that Girsan felt way better and the sights are way better as well
