How rare are as issued SVT-40s?

How rare is it to find an as issued SVT-40? The refurbs may be nice, but I'd love to find a well seasoned as issued one. I found a few pics on the net last night, this one really makes me want another red rifle!! Rest of the pics show all numbers matching on everything, this one was pulled out of Europe in 1951 by an American Major. Gorgeous rifle.

What would something like this one be worth? Are there any as issued examples like this available in Canada?

The only fews in canada are likely finn capture. Also Globco 555 in 303 british were made using finn capture SVT, what a shame to have bubbaed thoses SVT. I think a finn capture,un-altered would worth $600-$700,maybe more, always depend of the condition and how a buyer is willing to pay.

well it was not bubbing it back then it was more or less to have ammo they are mostly svt 38's and some svt 40's

in the 50's there was next to no 7.62x54r in canada so a conversion to .303 brit made sense

yeah ive seen a few but there not as common i bet one or two lucky guys got one that came in with the svt 40's

but there was a different mind set back then remember there was businesses making sporters out of lee enfields and mausers
 
i have a minty svt40 my buddy (long dead) brought back from europe in the early 70's ....not a refurb all stamped match.... matching stock is dated to the rifle nicest looking svt ive seen ...he also brought back an MP44..which i also have ..mint ...he was a dealer in burlington back in the day and he converted the MP44 to semi-auto when dealers/gunsmiths were allowed to ..

Yes, at the time it made sense from an ammo point of view.
Ironic that now x54R is CHEAP, while .303 is bloody expensive.

times have changed the cartridge of our country not made in surplus any more but the 7.62x54r the cartridge of russia and the soviet union is still being made and used in battle

i sold my finn capture years ago ..completley worn out and tired ..worked tho...lol you never new where the bullet would hit even at 25yds so much flame and concussion .cuz the gases where blowing by the bullet as it went down the barrel ....i started the grass on fire at winona range with it ..tooooo fn funny
 
I'm sitting on an SA mismatched SVT 1941. Are they really that desireable? I bought this looking for an unrefurbed one, closest I culd get was this SA marked rifle.
 
I think $600-700 is still the going price for a SA marked SVT 40. Its not like the U.S.A. where they sell for upwards of a $1000. The SVT 38 is more collectible.

Don't know if you'd ever find a matching Finn one since the Finns didn't match up their Mosin Nagent rifles, just restamped them.

I have a refurb SVT 40 and that's good enough for me. Its an interesting weapon for sure and was liked by the Germans as well as the Finns.
