Most of the shorter 870 barrels I've seen have been matte finish. You'd probably have to get it barrel painted. Since you're in Ontario, look up Notch and Post Custom; he does awesome work with cerakote and durakote.Maybe this is a really dumb question. I really like the shiny blue wing masters with nice polished wood furniture. What's the best path to buy or convert one to a short barrel, 12-14", while retaining the glossy finish?
No, I'm 98% certain the 14" Police barrels were matte finished.Weren’t there 14” 870 police barrels that were polished/blued? You could search for one if it exists but it might be hard as hell to find, or get someone to part with it. I know if I had an old 870 police that was polished and blued it would be expensive if I was to even to think about selling it.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen pics of them, made on Wingmaster actions with nice oiled walnut police stock sets. Very old school cool looking riot police guns. There are 14" Police barrels out there and which are polished and blued ... they are just pretty rare ...
I did two builds … not with 12’ to 14” barrels but I was facing the same issue …. I wanted a polished and blued 870.
The first build started out as a polished and blued 870 Police that I bought new at the time. I got a front sight ramp soldered to that barrel … and drilled and taped for a ghost ring .... and then the barrel needed to be refinished …. i.e. polished and blued. And at the same time I got the ghost ring polished and blued as well.
And I got the mag extensions for both guns polished and blued.
That is a custom job.
The other gun … started out as a brand new Wingmaster … and I found an older used polished and blued rifle sighted barrel for it. Worked out perfectly ….
If I wanted a polished and blued 12’ to 14” 870 today …. then I would start out with a brand new Wingmaster …. And try to find an Express or Police barrel in the length that I want… and get that barrel polished and blued …. and to match the Wingmaster receiver. Its a custom job .... but not too expensive ....
There are some 14" polished and blued barrels out there on the used market ..... but they are pretty rare ...

Yeah, that’s a beauty. I did some searching online and it seems the old ones did come with a blued barrel option, all built on Wingmaster actions. Once Rem started stamping them 870 police they moved to a parkerized finish, the blued 14” seem less common. Lots of 18” or 20”examples.You mean like this?:
14" blued Remington Police barrel on my 1980's Wingmaster
I imported several batches of 14" Police barrels in various finishes and configurations back in 2015-2016 and sold some of them on CGN. Unfortunately the company I bought from ( a US Remignton 870 parts dealer) no longer sells the 14" barrels.
On my Wingmaster I chose not to go for an extended mag tube to allow for super quick and easy barrel swapping:

That may be true of complete guns, but there were still blued factory 870 police barrels available from Remington until very recently. I purchased mine in several batches in 2015/2016 and they were current stock in modern Rem boxes with part numbers.Yeah, that’s a beauty. They were certainly were less common but Remington always offered the Police in both blued and parkerized finish. No idea about RemArms.Yeah, that’s a beauty. Police 14” barrels came in Mod or Cyl fixed choke. 18 and 20” were/are IC or Cyl.Ramped beads and all!? Do they also have choke tubes?
