How to embiggen my gun grips for large hands?

Mine are about 190, and I find pachmayr presentation grips on revolvers are just about right.

I just checked my own hands and if I'm doing it right I'm at 210mm. So I'm more "ogre wannabe".... :D

Tbone, that tape is as close as your local bicycle shop that caters to road bikers. Or if you're in a city with an MEC they have it as well. While you're there check out the service shop to see if they have an old mountain bike size inner tube. The neat thing about this bar tape is that because the edges are feathered out you can overlay it with less or more overlap to build up the thickness with really great control and very few lumps. Then when it feels just about right cut and roll up then roll on a tube of the inner tube rubber. Or if that just won't work go with the hockey friction tape or even some of that self bonding camo tape. Otherwise the foam will squish around pretty quickly. On the handlebars it's intended to be slightly stretched into place and that holds it really well. But with short vertical strips such as on the handgun it won't work out that way.

A bit of creative angle cutting along the back strap will feather the tape up and around the hook of the back strap so it doesn't tend to push your hand down.

I too suffer from 'ogre hands'. Ogre feet too, finding boots is a #*#@#*! I don't know what you're shooting, but I've found the largest backstrap on the M+P seems to work about best of anything I've tried. A bit of a palm swell in it, not quite perfect though. I like to shoot my Tokarevs, but with my hands I've got to grip the things carefully or the slide leaves blisters on the webbing of my thumb.

Ogre feet too!! Do you also suffer from the size 15+ shoe hunting failures that I endure?

Jordan Troopers were designed by and for a man with very large hands. Herrett's still makes them.

I've a Girsan beretta clone and I find that even though it has a fat grip, the reach to the trigger is still so short that I can't get my finger on it properly without crooking it to excess.

My SR1911 works for me, though, as do my single action revolvers. I might just get out of 9mm altogether, as I'm not sure if buying a 9mm 1911 is worthwhile just to shoot 9mm...

I mostly shoot everything one handed now, since getting into SAA type guns. Didn't like the feel of the double stack 1911 guns either

A dealer told me that with my hands probably only a Glock would fit me well. I can't bring myself to buy such a thing, however. I like firearms with character, not ones that are just tools.

Those only fill in on the sides and around the front. That's not what someone with oversize hands needs. Instead they want to fill in the sides and around the back strap. With a sides and front strap fill the reach to the trigger is actually shortened to where they will have trouble putting the right portion of their trigger finger onto the trigger.

But your idea does suggest an interesting option. If the sides are embiggened with overlapping vertical layers of that bicycle grip tape I mentioned and then if a stretch tube of something like a bicycle inner tube were rolled on over the tape it would form a great trial fit solution. Once the person plays around with the fit THEN they could look into some sort of custom solution that would look better.

I'm not talking about the replacement grips, I am talking about the tube sleeve that goes around the existing grip that simply enlarges the overall grip including backstrap.

I find I don't care for the feel of the Glock, I've shot the 17 and a police issue 22 (15 round mag, sweet), the M&P seems a better fit.

Hmmmm.... I was told the Glock would be a better fit than an M&P, so that's good to hear from someone who has shot both. I can shoot the M&P, but I don't love it. I did pretty decent for the few mags I put through an XD, but I'm not spending big bucks on any plastic gun.

I think that, in the end, if I decide to get another 9mm pistol I might as well go for another 1911. Or I could just hang it all and save for a JR Carbine instead for non restricted 9mm fun.

And the Beretta really isn't good for big hands. Fat grips don't mean much for the long-fingered.

Try the Glock, it might be a matter of my own personal taste. They just feel too.....square I guess. Something about them just doesn't agree with my hands.

I understand that the Gen 4 is a better option for guys like us. Hopefully I'll bump into someone at the range who has one someday. A big 45 Colt is pretty good trade credit when someone has a gun that I'd like to shoot, I've found ;)

I have long skinny fingers. I can almost wrap mine around the grip of a single stack 1911. I'm running a double stack 1911 now with a longer trigger bow with a flat profile. Makes a world of difference for me.

What revolver are you shooting? I'd like to get a single action, needs to be large hand suitable.

Uberti 1858 Remington conversion (44-40) and a Pietta Peacemaker "Tombstone" model in 45 Colt. The grip frame on the Pietta is an oversized one, and really it's a bit too long. The Remington fills the hand nicely, and is my new favorite handgun.

What range do you shoot at?

Selkirk G+F so far. Haven't renewed for the year yet. With a little ogre on the way, I'm not certain how much shooting I'll be doing this year...
