Wiinis,
The simple way is to take your PAL and RPAL course this will give you a basic background on firearms both nonrestricted and restricted. Once you pass the exams at the end of the course and you pass your background check you will receive a RPAL in about 30-45 days.
Once you have your RPAL you have two choices in order to qualify to own a handgun in Canada. 1. Target Shooter or 2. Collector.
I would recommend you choose Target Shooter. I would recommend you then take a tour of some shooting clubs in Ontario.
Once you join a club, you can then get a transfer approved for your first handgun in Ontario.
You will be required to take another course at the club of your choice in order to prove you are a safe shooter. It is for the good of the other club members as much as yourself.
Once the club okays you, I would go out and buy your first handgun. I would recommend something simple like a .22 revolver or .22 SA pistol.
You see it is alot of work upfront but it is a very rewarding hobby. Just remember that owning a gun (legally) in Canada has a huge responsiblity for the owner.
Not trying to lecture you, just some friendly advice.
Cheers, and good luck!
